Click Start
Click Control Panel
Click Phone and modem options
Click the Modem tab.
Click Query Modem, and wait a few seconds.
The modem will respond to some 'AT' commands.
Scroll through the output window.
In Control Panel, click System
Click Hardware
Click Device Manager
Expand the "modem" branch
Double-click the modem
Click Properties, to identify your modem.
The 678 error means that the modem is not connecting to the server because of problem at the server end. Contact the helpline of your service provider and ask them to rectify the problem at their end.
