Any 5 1/4 DVD / CD drive will work. You may have to order drive rails depending on the setup of Gateways tower. You should have 2 - 5.25" Drive Bays available. The original model number and name for the DVD drive is 5648 DVD Burner Combo Drive .

The tower does have internal SATA so you can replace it with any internal SATA DVD rom you like, it doesnt have to be Gateway, and it can even be blu-ray.

Hope this helps

Dvd-rw burner problem

Check on Acer's website and see if there is a firmware upgrade for your drive. If not, it looks like you will have to replace the drive unless it is under warranty.

I have a samsung dvd-v4600...and when i put the dvd disc in it just keeps loading and will not load ..what do i do to fix this?

Hi,
Does it do with original DVD or copied DVD ?.
if the original one works fine but the others not, your DVD may not capable of playing copy -R/RW discs..even though your DVD specs says: Plays DVD-Video, video-mode DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW, CD-R/CD-RW, MP3 CD, Kodak Picture CD, and JPEG image CDs, sometimes this happens due to bad recording of DVD .Try to use better recorded DVD or if possible use the original ones..
Thanks in advance for rating me..Regards

How do I copy a dvd-rw to a dvd

You will have to copy the contents of the DVD-RW to your computer's hard drive. Then replace the DVD-RW with a blank DVD+-, and burn the contents you copied onto it using your burning software of the built in Windows burning software.

I want to find a replacement for DRC8030N

you can replace the DVD-RW yourself with any computer DVD/DVD-rw drive.  You will need to modify the way it sits in the unit as the screw holes will be different and some drilling will most likely be needed to make new screw holes.  Finding an original replacement DVD-RW for this unit will be hard because the first problem that this unit has is a constant HELLO message due to a faulty DVD-RW, so they are in high demand.

J-rad72,

Yes, Sorry for the bad news, that drive has gone bad and has to be replaced. It has to do something with the drive board causing the issue.

Cant play DVD on CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive

Assuming you have tried different makes of cd or dvd disks, it's a classic drive failure problem where the laser can no longer burn or read dvd's, but may still be able to read cd's only. You will have to replace the drive, they are quite inexpensive, and very easy to fit.
