On most models, the door stays locked during a self clean, until the temperature returns to normal for safety reasons.

It sounds like your unit may have tripped a breaker during this self clean event. Check your panel for a tripped breaker. If the oven has cooled down, and the lock is still engaged, then we may have a different problem.

I don't know how old your oven is, but there is a known issue with KitchenAid and Whirpool ovens. I have attached several links that discuss some of this problem.

What has most likely happened is that the internal fuse has blown. See here.

I started a self clean on my oven, and then shut it off, the door opened, now it will not close, seem like the latch is in the lock posistion. help

For an oven self cleaning problem, the first thing to check is the door lock motor and switch assembly. Every self cleaning oven door has a locking mechanism to prevent the door from being opened during the cleaning cycle. An oven self cleaning problem often happens after a clean cycle has been run. If that happens, more often then not the lock assembly will need to be replaced. The door lock motor and switch assembly, over time, fail due to the high temperatures that are encountered during the cleaning cycle.
Here is the part to order.

All parts come with a 365 day, any part, any reason return policy.

We have a kitchen aid KGSA906PSS00 gas range. for the first time today the wife decided to run the self clean function. At some point through the self clean the oven shut off and the control panel died....

Sounds like my problem two days ago. I have a Kitchen Aid free standing gas oven/range model
KGRI801PWH00. I read online that the thermo-fuse might've blown. I found the thermo-fuse after removing the rear panel. It was at the top/center. Mine is T-O-D (brand) 60F24; Westinghouse #8300802. I ordered mine from appliancepartspros.com for only $34.75; arrived in 36 hrs with regular shipping!! Easy to fix, sure beats several hundred $$ to repairman.

Don't bother to call Kitchen Aid - they'll just blow you off just like the hundreds of complaints said that I found online.

Oven went dead in self clean mode and the door remains locked. Is this the thermostat? How do I get the door unlocked when control panel shut down? Kitchenaide KGRA806

Unplugged the stove and turn off the gas.Take the back off the oven and replace the thermostat. It's super easy. Before you buy the part call kitchen aid... this is a known problem. They will say the parts are not free and try to give you a discount. But if you continue to argue , they'll send it for free.

Self cleaning attempt has shut down the control panel.

You need an air flow kit, part 81911788 and a professional to install it.

there is a thermal fuse in the back of the oven that more than likely has tripped during self clean poor air flow around can cause this power surges during self clean can too you have to pull the oven out and remove back panel to find it
