Used in LCD and DLP type projection TV's to hold all the optical stuff that creates, focuses, and projects the image onto the screen. These TVs are much like a regular video projector except all folded up to fit it into the space of a TV. They are generally not repairable, are prone to get overheated, warping the plastic optical cavity housing and distorting the picture. Very expensive to replace as a result, usually over a $1000 and why you want to keep one of these TVs under warranty for its entire life.

Blue light

You cannot. The blue blotch is a sign that your optical block is going out. This will only get worse. The optical block will need to be replaced. This is not cost effective.

My tv has a blue dots all around the television. Im thinking its the optical block? Maybe time for a new tv?

You are correct in thinking optical block, but here is the good news. For the cost of a service call a tech can come out with a jig and reprogram your optical block and the problem should go away. It may be worth the cost to fix. Unlike throwing away a 900 dollar optical block.

Problem with blue dots on screen plus blue haze in lower left hand corner. Replaced lamp approximate 1month ago with Phillips lamp Assy. Blue dots started to appear about 1 week ago and are increasing in...

The optical block is most likely causing the problem. It will continue to get worse. Sony may help with the repair since they have had a lot of problems over the years with their optical blocks across many models. On the older sets they usually only help with the parts cost. The average repair cost for a optical block replacement is $1200.00 to $1500.00. So if they help with the parts cost it really brings the cost down. Their customer service number is 1800-222-SONY.

Started with blue halo now i have a yellow spot what causes it?

The optical block is the most likely cause. It is a major repair. They have had issues with their optical block across several models and they have been know to help customers with getting the repair done because of the cost involved. If it is past warranty over a couple of years, they may only pay for the part. Typically the cost would be around 1500.00. Try calling the customer support and see if they will help with repairs. 1800-448-2244

Sony KDS-R50XBR1 optical engine problem

Sony TVs has an Optical Block issue. If there is an issue with the optical block, then there will be green, blue patches or tint on the TV display. Try resetting the TV to the factory settings and try Power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue still persists, then TV may require service. You can contact the Customer relations team and check for the available options. Sony had repaired free of cost for such issues. Hence, contact the customer relations.

Sony dlp KDS-R60XBR1 changed projection lamp to see if this would get rid of the green everything. didn't work. Now what?

This is an incation of optical block gone bad and it cost to me around $1200 and with shipping and labor the cost of repairs goes past 1600. So best option will be to rturn the lamp and junk this tv as its beyond economical repairs. I have delt with this problem in JVC 56 inch DLP. However, Call sony customer care to confirm the cost of optical block before you decide. Check out for more solutions and price quotes at www.fixurtvs.com.

I just paid $350.00 for a lamp replacement on my wd-57732 model m itsubishi tv. During the replacement the repairman said that I needed a optical engine replacement in addition to the lamp. I can't find...

The Optical Block is where the Video and Light from the Lamp is processed then projected to the screen. It is one of the most expensive parts of the set. It cost probably 800.00 to 900.00 maybe more by it's self. You will not be able to find it on line because Mitsubishi keeps a very tight hand on them. Why did he con-dim the Optical Block? I would call Mitsubishi and see if they could help with the repair cost. Their phone number is 1800-332-2119.
