I have a black square in the top left corner of my Prima TV when watching a TV show, but when I press the guide on our satellite receiver it goes away, but returns when I return to normal viewing.

If you are watching television and you see black lines on the left and right sides of the screen, check to see if you are watching an HD broadcast or a standard definition broadcast. You can do this by bringing up the TV guide menu on your remote. If the show is in HD, it should take up the full screen. However, if it is not HD, bars will be present on the left and right of the screen. That is because standard definition programing is in 4x3, which will not take up the entire screen.

If the picture you are watching not only has black bars on the sides, but on the tops and bottoms of the screen as well, your "Zoom" mode has somehow gotten off-kilter. Press the "Zoom" button on the remote until the image appears correct. If this does not work, power down the television, wait a few moments, and power the TV back on. The image should be correct now.

If the image on the screen looks stretched or squished, this is because your HD cable receiver is not set up properly for your widescreen television. Press the "Menu" button on the receiver

The black square is a text box for the deaf. You can turn it on and off with the closed captioning button on your remote or from the closed captioning section in your television's menu.

However if you are connecting a cable box or satellite tv receiver you would need to turn the text box off from its menu. There is often a hidden menu that needs to be accessed on the cable boxes and satellite tv receivers that can be reached by turning it off and then immediately pressing the menu button on the outside of it. Hi, Mary with Dish Network Customer Service here. It sounds like when you try to change channels with your remote, it is changing the channels on your TV and not your Satellite Receiver. In the top left corner of the Dish Network remote is an SAT button. When you try to change channels on the Satellite receiver this button should be lighting up. If the TV button lights up, it means the remote is working the TV. Press and release the "SAT" button after you have the picture back on the TV and it should work normally. My name is Anthony Thomas with DISH Network Customer Service. This issue is usually due to a faulty program guide with "No Information Available" or incorrect information as to when the programming ends. This can be caused by a faulty Electronic Program Guide (EPG) download, a faulty box, or by signal loss. By pressing the guide button to bring up the guide, and then pressing the numbers 999 and then browse (the right arrow by select) it should give a message that says "The guide information is outdated, download from satellite now?" or something similar. Try it and see if that helps.

If not, that means there is likely a signal issue or an issue with the DVR. To check signal, Press Menu (top left corner of remote under SAT, has three horizontal lines on it), and then press 6-1-1 like you are changing the channels. That should get you to Point Dish. Check Switch will be an option on the right side. Select it and then select TEST at the bottom of the Install Summary screen that will show up. Select YES if there is a warning about TV2, otherwise it will bring up a 058 message saying to wait while test is done. The message 058 will disappear by itself. If a warning 836 message appears, your issue may require a technician due to signal loss. If not, select done to exit Install Summary, Done again to exit Point Dish, and then press the 0 button three times to select the cancel option. This should put you to an "Acquiring Satellite" Message(Attention 015/535 message) and then download the guide (Attention 330). Check it then. If it still doesn't work, the box may need replacing. If it works, you are all done! Hope this helps!

Sounds like a software corruption in the TV. Most of the late 2000 flat panel TV have upgradeable software that can be downloaded by USB memory stick. Check the LG web site for software upgrades. This should be a free download by LG.

Programming an Expressvu remote control can be frustrating. There are two basic ways of doing in it. The first one involves knowing both your TV brand name and also knowing the proper code to input in your remote. The second method is doing an automatic search. The following is a step by step procedure in how to program your dish network or Expressvu remote.


1)Make sure your TV and Satellite Receiver is ON.
2)Press and hold TV button until all lights on the side of it flashes. The TV button is the second button on the Top left hand side corner of the remote control.
3) Release that button, then press & release RED Button. You will notice TV button is stays on. If, it doesn't stay ON, you must repeat step 2 & 3. Otherwise, your batteries are low, you MUST change then.
4)Press and release the UP Arrow Key on the remote until TV turns off. Notice the UP arrow key button is the button below the volume keys (Stop button for VCR.)
5)Make sure you are aiming remote control to TV while pressing and releasing UP arrow key button. When you find the right code, the TV will turn OFF.
6) Immediately after, TV turns off, press # key.

sounds like you have your closed caption turned on check that in your menu

If, when selecting the guide, the entire screen is black (except for the preview in the corner), then the digital main board has gone bad and will need replaced.

There are two three-bar displays on this watch.
The three in the top left will always show only one bar (or possibly no bars).  The top left indicates the level of charge in the battery and not the atomic receive function.
The three in the bottom right are related to receiving.  The atomic receive is controlled from settings.  With the time displayed, hold down the ADJUST button for several seconds.  Once the timezone name (e.g. LAX) starts flashing at the top, release the ADJUST button and press MODE once to get to the DST control. Press MODE again to get to the Atomic receive control.  Use the receive button to switch ON->OFF->ON... Press ADJUST twice to exit settings mode.
