There are a number of places that list replacement switches. There are also a number of DC05 models, though the power switch is not likely to vary across them. Amazon, for instance, has a Dyson Switch for models including the DC05 and six other models (see here Dyson Switch Dc03 Dc04 Dc05 Dc07 Dc08 Dc11 Dc14 On Off )
This video (ostensibly for a DC08, but the procedure should be pretty much identical) shows how to take the unit apart, get at and test the on/off switch, and replace it if need-be. How To Change Dyson DC08 Switch An Easy To Follow Tutorial
The belt maybe broken.Turn the machine over and remove the screws that hold the plastic plate on.the bar will now lift up and out.Make sure to notice how it is in.The belt fits in a groove on the brush and the other end fits on a small wheel or rod ,about six inches back from the groove on the brush.
The belt is broken.First while looking at the brushes, find the screws that hold that bottom plate on.Remove the screws and the plate comes off. This will allow you to lift the brush out of the vacuum. It is important to make note of how the brush fits in the vacuum. The new belt will fit on a groove on the brush. The other end fits on a small wheel about six inches back from the brush.
First, turn dial on top of vacuum counter-clockwise so the smallest dot lines up with the arrow. See if it stays on. If not, detach hose and turn vacuum on. Place palm of hand over intake. If it turns off, it's possible that the tubes connecting to the CVA (control valve assembly) are clogged and simply need cleaned. This should be performed at an authorized Aerus Electrolux store only.
Second, check the afterfilter. This should be changed after every six bags. It's located beneath the tool caddy on the back of the machine. Press in the tab and lift tool caddy. If the filter is dirty, remove and replace. If you're out, try running the vacuum with no afterfilter.
I mentioned the CVA earlier, and a broken or worn out CVA will cause the vacuum to not start/run. This is an internal part and needs to be replaced by an authorized Aerus Electrolux service tech. Use the same check as above; detach hose, switch vacuum on. If it doesn't come on, it's most likely a bad CVA.
There are two things that can cause an upright vacuum to stop working
A: Air Flow or Suction-Make sure that the air flow is not impeded by a clog, full bag, or dirty filter.
B: Agitation- Make sure that you have a good belt, the roller is engaged, and that the height adjustment is set appropriately. Most vacuums need a belt change about every six months whether it is broken or not.
