Purchased the Satellite A500 Series. My problem is I want to get a more conclusive guide. I am now on my desktop, looking for the manual so many of my questions will be answered. It is hard to follow the small books that I received with the Toshiba laptop.
Right now I have 11 questions.
1. I don't know what to do with my wires and battery pack.
2. How do I use my modem?
3. What is a Blue Tooth, Wi-Fi, wireless wan and wireless lan?
4. What is an analog phone line?
5. What is LCD panel?
6. How do you turn off the power? I know how to turn it on.
7. What are keycaps?
8. What is storage media?
9. What kind of floppy disk do I use with this computer?
10. What kind of disk do I use to make back-up copy?
11. What is Express card?
and I only read half of the small book.
Thank you.
Your battery pack gets inserted on the underside of your laptop, it slides in and locks on.. Line up the track and simply plug it in.
What wires are you referring to that came with the laptop?? what do they look like?
You only use your modem if you're planning in using DIAL-UP for your internet connection... Otherwise you'll never need it..Your modem port is the one that fits a telephone cord plug... the wider one that looks similar is your Ethernet port - which is used for either dsl or ethernet/cable connection...
Bluetooth is a means of connectiong perifferals to your laptop such as a cell phone, a PDA, a headset....etc.... Its a short range wireless connection method..
Wifi is your wireless connection wireless Wan is Wide Area Network.. mainly used for business and Companies that have servers overseas and such..
Wifi Wireless LAN is local Area Network... Which is what you would be considered if you use Wireless to connect to internet..
To Use Wireless You Also Need A Wireless Capable Router/Modem
Analog Phone Line Is THe "old Land Line Connected Phone" as apposed to a digital phone...
the LCD panel is referring to the Screen of your laptop.. The LCD Panel is made up of Layers Of Films, A Backlight Panel, LCD Bulb, and A Glass Digitized Panel
You turn off the Power Either By Holding Down Your Power Button until it completely shuts down, or shut it down through windows... START/Shut Down
KeyCaps are the Additional Key Functions that all laptops have... To access these Key Functions, You Press The Function Key (Fn) along with the corresponding F-Key or other key...
Storage media refers to any media capable of storing data... Such as a secondary hard drive, A Media Card, A Thumb Drive A Flash Drive A Camera Memory card... etc....
Doubtful that you have a floppy drive on that laptop... But if you do, the standard 1.44 Floppy Disk Works
To make a backup, If its a FULL backup, you will need to use DVDs or better yet, use a Flash Drive (USB thumb drive), or you can get yourself an external hard drive to store your backups onto...
Expres card is the wide slot on the side of your laptop,,, Used for Different cards, Wireless cards, Ethernet Cards, Extra Usb Slots Card, Data Storage cards.. Etc...
These are some of the basic topics that are discussed in any begginers book.you can find all your answers in detail there.
Hi
You do not say which Operating System you are using.
Right Click on the Speaker icon bottom right near the clock to ensure the none of the audio function are muted. If any are, untick them.
The Default sond device controlling a computer's audio function can be changed when a new audio capable device like an MP3 Player, a cellphone, a media player or a bluetooth device are plugged into it. The Dial Up modem (that hardly anyone uses nowadays) can also seize control of the audio.
The precise steps that follow depend on your operating system version.
Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio devices > Audio.
Click on the drop down menu to the right of the Playback Device and select the correct default device (test the listed alternatives) > Apply > Ok.
Restart the computer and test the audio.
If this does not solve the problem , download the audio drivers, install them, restart the computer and then test the audio again by playing a tune in Sample sounds in the (My) Music folder.
Download from here (enter your full model number - A500 satellite is not enough- see underneath laptop for full model number):
Hope this helps.
