Confirm that the ink tanks are installed properly When replacing the ink tanks, confirm that the new ink tanks are installed properly. If the ink tanks are not locked into place, paper may not be fed properly, or ink may not be supplied to the print head.

  1. Check that the printer is powered on and open the front cover.

  2. Wait until the print head moves to the center.

  3. Check if the ink tanks are installed properly.

  4. When installing the ink tanks, push the top of the ink tank until a click sound is made.

Note: If the ink tanks are not installed properly, paper may not be fed properly, or ink may not be ejected.

  5. Close the front cover.

    Unchecking Grayscale Printing

Follow the steps below to change the Grayscale Printing option:

On the Windows desktop, click 'Start', point to 'Settings', then click 'Printers' (Windows XP: On the Start menu, click 'Printers and Faxes').

        For
Windows Vista: Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the
Windows screen, 'Control Panel', 'Hardware and Sound', and then click
on 'Printers'. Note: If you are in 'Classic' view, Click 'Printers' directly from the 'Control Panel'.

        Windows
2000/XP/Vista: Right-click the printer icon, then click 'Printing
Preferences'. Windows 98/Me: Right-click the printer icon, then click
        'Properties'.

On the Main tab, click on the 'Grayscale Printing' check-box to remove the check-mark.

Click the 'OK' button to save the setting.

Printer will only print in back ink and not colour. i have checked the cartridge.

Check the printer properties and locate the Color Management screen. Make sure that you do not have Black and White selected for your printing.

How do I change cartridges for a Canon Pixma iP1500 color printer?

You should be able to open the top hatch while the printer is on and the print head will slide out to the middle so you can access the cartridges.
Remove the existing ink cartridges by pushing down on them until they pop out of place.

NOT PRINTING COLOR

I have the same problem.  At first I thought the printhead clogged but dipping it in solvent did not work.  I guess the only thing we could do is to buy a new print head, but at the cost it's going at, we might as well get a new printer.  Other than that try sent a RMA.
