It needs a new DVD drive I would say. I fix them and it's a really common problem with them.

I buy mine at http://parts.consolerepairguy.com they run about $30 each.

I run a repair business and that place has best prices aside from Hong Kong which I don't trust.

My dvd player won't spin. The TV is fine. Could a dvd lens cleaner work if a disc doesn't spin?

The lens cleaner will not work if the disc wont move. It sounds like the drive motor is blown. Could possibly be a fuse, but if your not experienced troubleshooting electronics I do not suggest you fix it yourself. Honestly it would be cheaper to buy a new dvd player than having this one fixed.

"No Disc" error message

A no disc error on any electronics device indicates one of three problems. 1. The disc reading lens in the cd/dvd/brd drive has gone out or is dirty. 2. The drive has a "stabilizing" screw that must be tweaked. 3. The disc is not spinning due to a bad motor on the drive or something is blocking it. If you can hear the disc spinning *whizzing sound* its not a motor issue. You can try running a cd lens cleaning disc but if its not registering it probably wont spin, thus wont clean the lens. You can attempt to clean a lens with a cotton Q tip and rubbing alcohol but be warned, touching the lens can scratch it and destroy it. If your object is not under warranty you can have a professional look at the drive to check the tension on screws, this is usually a huge problem found in XBOX 360's. Make sure its not the disc by trying other working games/movies/etc. If all else fails you can always purchase a new dvd/cd/blu ray drive and have it professionally installed. Xbox 360 $20-$40, PS3 $100-$150 Although its not common, another solution is that cables on the drive might be loose, but usually you cannot open the device; the two cables are power approx. 1-1.5 inches long and the output plug which is usually half the size.

The disc reader will not spin any discs. What to

If you have never opened the console then it can be 3 things
1 Connection to the DVD drive has came loose
2 The laser Lens is bad
3 1 of the 2 motors in the drive could be bad.

If the disc will not spin then it would me a loose power connection to the dvd drive, or the motor that spins the disc is bad. All parts in the dvd drive can be changed. But never change the whole drive without takeing the board out of the old drive and put in the new drive. If you do then all it will be is a expensive paper weight. Because there is a security number in the motherboard that must match the one injected in the DVD drive. I repair these problems often with 99% success.

Wont read disc

Hello there... Sony seems a choosy brand so it looks like your disc is not recognized by it. Check also your disc for scratches or you just need to clean your disc first before you can use it. Try it. If this doesn't help, try inserting your disc to other CD-ROM. See if your disc is okay. Hope this helps...

Wont Play Discs

Sounds like you have a mechanical problem, which can range from a bad/broken belt, roller or motor. Inspect & repair the drive train.

If you are not capable of doing that seek professional service.

Good luck. :)

Disk wont spin?

If its still under warranty, and the seal hasn't been cracked, contact Microsoft.

Try what hijackthis1 suggested, if that doesn't fix it, try this.

Since you have the 360 apart, and the top cover off of the dvd drive, here we go...

There's a circular cut-out that's glued to the top cover that you removed from the dvd drive, right below the sticker with all of the drive information. I was able to pop out the cut-out. After that you now have (3) pieces in your hand, the cover, cut-out, and a plastic piece.

Connected the dvd drive back in the 360 with the top cover off.

Put a game or movie in the drive, don't hit the eject botton, just put the disc in the tray.

Now with the disc in the tray, put the plastic piece in the center of the disc. Its magnetic, so it should kind of lock in to place.

Connect the power/av cords in the 360 and turn her on.

You should see the disc try to spin. (It may spin once or a couple times around, but it will stop). When you see the disc start to spin, GENTLE, spin/turn the disc in the direction in wants to go. It should load the game or dvd with no problems.

Reassemble the cover and put back on the dvd drive.

Now use the eject botton, and try games and dvds.

If disc fails to spin, do process over again.

I've done this with one of my 360's with no problems.
The drive I used was an Hitachi 0059DJ.

Xbox 360 disc drive

To april23

what has most likely happened is that the magnet which holds disks in place has dis-lodged and is now stuck to the roof of the dvd drive. Unfortunately the only way to resolve this would be to open up the xbox 360 and open up the dvd drive to fix.

So if you're not confident at this or in doubt in any way I'd contact Microsoft first if it's still under warranty, if not then it's a case of opening up the drive yourself I'm afraid.

Note. Does the drive attempt to spin up when you put a disk in?

Or does it just make small noises then nothing except "open tray" on screen?
