The screen has a broken circuit in it somewhere, which is what will cause thes lines. You could take to a repair shop, and have them fix it, or call the manufacturer and tell them it is defective, and they will send you a new one for FREE!!!!

Try uninstalling the entire graphics card from the Device manager by right clicking on My Computer and selecting properties, on the hardware tab select Device Manager. Navagate through the list for display adapters or ATI Radeon . . . then right click on it and select disable, say yes to the dialogue box and restart. When the system comes back up, follow the instructions in the ADD New Hardware Wizard.

Bottom half of laptop screen is colors with white lines vertically. Was able to control by changing position of screen, no lnger able to do that. Thin k Pad Lenovo T60

Try to hook up an external monitor just to check that it is not a problem with the video card of the laptop. Most likely the LCD cable is loose or the LCD inverter needs to be replaced.

Hope this helps.

I am having some vertical lines on the lcd screen

I just helped resolved a few of these issues? Your display driver is corrupt & needs to be disabled, then a fresh one installed from IBM, I just fixed my A30 thinkpad. Mine was extreme where I had to rename and remove the display driver folder swo the OS would not locate it there, then restarted. ?Your monitor isnt going bad as you might be thinking.

Laptop screen displays vertical lines of various colours

Have you tried to connect your laptop to external monitor?
If you get normal picture on external monitor, then you need to replace LCD screen, but if you get same picture on external screen, then unfortunately you will need new motherboard, because graphics card is integrated to motherboard.

Vertical lines on thinkpad T43p screen.

You have identified the fault is the video card, I am in agreement. The fault is on the motherboard and a replacement motherboard is the only fix. This may not be a cost effective solution, I would recommend you put your money towards a new laptop.

My Ibm Laptop r51 has a vertical lines on the screen

The lines appearing on your LCD means it has a defect on the screen.

There are 3 types of pixel defect
1) dead pixel - pixel is always off
2) stuck pixel - pixel is always on
3) hot pixel - pixel is on but in red, green, blue or yellow, can also be a light black color

You can try to fix stuck or hot pixels but dead is dead.
1st method, flashing different colors rapidly: has a great tool. This is their free java applet or you can download it below.

2nd method, applying pressure to pixel:
Damp paper towel, Small stylus or dull pencil.

3rd method, tapping the pixel:
Pen with cover on or another small, blunt object.

If your laptop is still under warranty, get it replaced. If not you are looking at the most expensive part in a laptop to get replaced. (LCD screens on laptop is roughly equivalent to 40-60% of the total laptop cost

Please rate this if it this helps.

My Ibm Laptop r51 has a vertical lines on the screen

Our service have 3 pcs of IBM r51 note. All of them has the same problem with the display (vertical lines). When I changed the LCD panel itself, I found that the source of the problem is the panel, not the video card, not the wireing... You only need to drop out the old LCD panel and get a new one. You cannot repair the wrong panel...

R51 vartical line on display

Try reinstalling all over, format your notebook and freshly install again your OS and drivers. It sometimes happen when we tweak some drivers it saved into the registry, it can be happen that settings is still there in the registry even you uninstall the driver, cause it's still the same driver although it has a different version. Sounds intriguing...? BUt its true, coz' you just only update the firmware but with the same driver.
