I have a philip 3962 it can not read DVD but it can read regular audio can you tell me what happend

hi,
i have got the same complaint some days ago. your players spindle motor is faulty.
its winding have some problem. spindle motor is that one on which the dvd spins. when u insert the dvd it is not rotating at the required rpm. thats why it is not reading. the problem will not be with video cds and audio cds . because it doesn't required a high rpm. replace the spindle motor. it will not cost a lot. its sure that ur problem will be solved.
if then also the problem remains,
your player's laser pick up unit have some problem with its DVD laser. there are two types of laser in dvd players. one for reading and playing audio cds, mp3 and video cds and the other for reading and playing dvds. in your player dvd laser have problem. don't think that these are two separate unit. the lasers are mounded in the same unit. if any of the laser get damaged you have to replace the whole unit.
if u need any more assistance feel free to contact me through fixya.
bellow is the image of laser pickup mechanism

Please check carefully the format the CD you burn. Your player should has at least same format or better to make it read the CDs.
For example standard dvd player will not able to read mpeg 4 CDs.

Not reading cds

first ask your self

has it ever worked?
are these cds burt as mp3 cds and not just plain audio cds?

it might need to have the lense on the laser cleaned other than that its pointless and probably is just bad, the cd player is old

Pioneer CDJ-800 MK2 Disk Reading issue

You might have damage to the reader, and I can only suggest replacing the CD Traverse/Transport assembly.
