Just put the new Transformers movie in to watch...saw about 5 seconds of the intro, then it locked....rented another Transformers movie from a different place...same thing happened. Change the DVD player to "region 1" using the code, but still didn't work. It just locks up and won't move forward. Says "root" on the player. Any suggestions?
I have the same exact problem with that dvd player. So far i am not aware of any solutions yet. I called phillips and they said they will try to create new firmware uprgade for the dvd player to fix the problem and they told me to keep an eye out for it on the website. I installed the most recent firmware too but that didnt help at all. The only other solution i see is maybe downloading the entire movie from pirate website and burn the dvd files onto a high quality disc at slow speed with a good dvd writing program.
Update:
I have gotten the dvd to play after doing a few different things.
1.rub the disc thoroughly with a soft cloth.
2.unplug any peripherls like usb, memory card and the ipod dock.
3.just as the dvd player turns on and is loading the disc immediately mute your tv and dvd player.
I think updating the firmware to latest is optional but it may also allow it to work after trying the previous steps.
The muting of the dvd player seemed to have done the trick but do the other steps to be safe, the dvd may have some thin oily layer. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, i believe its a codec/sound error that the dvd player cant convert so it freezes.

Actually, the problem lies within Paramount. My "digging around" showed me that Paramount uses a certain form of security protection software to protect from pirating. Perhaps this Philips HTS 3565d cannot decode this encryption. Just an educated theory based on lots of Internet digging.
Just tried turning all volumes down and it worked fine. Had the same problem with the new Startrek, same company. Thanx for the advice.
