Protocol switching I have two separate Internet connections and want to funnel which services use which connection. I want to limit all http and ftp traffic to connection b and all other traffic to connection a. Connection sits behind a Watchguard Firewall and Connection sits behind a Cisco Pix 515. Both firewalls are separated by VLANs on a Cisco 2924. What would be my best option to accomplish this?

The features that may be available to do this will vary depending on the version of software(IOS) on your switch. Do you know what IOS version you are using? You can find out by using the "show version" command.

Give each connection its own network & use Handshake authenication to access each other. You could also use a DMZ for 1(one) connection.
With this you will be able to use 1(one) External IP Address

Is this possible to connect the internet

Mostly only a SMART tv will connect to the internet. The instruction book will tell you more. The presence of an RJ45 socket should indicate possible internet capability.

Some tv top boxes will provide limited internet connectivity for older tv's for the purpose of catch-up tv and internet only tv channels.

Most tv sets can be linked to a desktop or laptop computer to provide full internet coverage on a large screen.

Pc to laptop

If you want to connect a pc (desktop?) to a laptop you need a network of some sort.
This can be via various methods.

1. USB cross connected Cable between the two machines.

2. Network connection via a hub, server or switch. Both sides have to have an IP address.

3. Over a wireless connection, as above the pc would be connected to the router and the pc laptop could log-in to the router with appropriate password to connect together using IP addresses.
4. Over the Internet if not in same room. (FTP protocol to send files between the two computers.).

How to configure router & switch

You shouldn't have to configure anything except the PC's should have IP and gateway set to auto.

Here is how it works:

A router connects two separate networks and manage the traffic between them.

In most home network applications the router connects your local group of computers and devices known as the LAN with the Internet, commonly called the WAN or Wide Area Network.

The router usually assigns unique Local IP addresses to all of the devices connected to it via a service known as DHCP. The addresses assigned by your router are private addresses http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_net... and are not routable across the Internet.

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is an auto configuration protocol used on IP networks. Computers that are connected to IP networks must be configured before they can communicate with other computers on the network. DHCP allows a computer to be configured automatically, eliminating the need for intervention by a network administrator. It also provides a central database for keeping track of computers that have been connected to the network. This prevents two computers from accidentally being configured with the same IP address. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_Hos...

Your cable or DSL modem will get a Public WAN IP address from your ISP's DHCP service. These public IP addresses are leased in blocks by your ISP and are Internet routeble. The modem is connected to the WAN port on your router. The router will manage the traffic between the devices on the LAN and the Internet.

If your 5 port switch is connected to one of the router's LAN ports and router's DHCP is on then it will configure the clients attached to It automatically.

If i am using ftp service to transfer data to a machine located nearby my pc will it result in faster data transfer?how far the downloading and uploading speed varies if the other machine is located...

FTP is a protocol for file transfer, doesn't matters how far or close the server is. Download speed never effected due to location of the devices, its your internet connection speed which allows you to download files over the internet. As you mentioned your download speed is 65kbps and it would be your maximum speed for downloading files over FTP and HTTP.
Hope this helps or you can ask if you have any query regarding this, thanks

I have a 2wire gateway modem/router and i need to reset it, but i dont have the default password located on the bottom of the modem/router because it fell off. I need to find out what the default password...

Open your Internet browser.
Type http://gateway.2wire.net/setup into the browser's address line.
You should see your key on the setup page.

Back-Up Key Codes

In most cases, you will receive a key code from your ISP. This key code is used to activate the 2Wire gateway. If you did not receive a key code, you can use the key codes provided in the following table.

If your Internet Service Provider did not provide you with

a user name, password, or IP address to set up your

Internet connection, your broadband connection most

likely uses DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)

and you should use this key code.

52EU-2374-2262-22AT-B222

If your Internet Service Provider gave you a PPPoE

username and password to set up your Internet

connection, your broadband connection uses Point-to-

Point Protocol over Ethernet and you should use this key

code.

52EU-2374-6262-22AS-B22Y

If your Internet Service Provider assigned you an IP

address to set up your Internet connection, your

broadband connection uses static IP (Internet Protocol)

and you should use this key code.

52EU-2374-2E66-22AS-B2TW

If your Internet Service Provider gave you a PPPoA

username and password to set up your Internet

connection, your broadband connection uses Point-to-

Point Protocol over ATM. In this case, you would use this

key code and Microsoft Dial-up Networking to connect to

the Internet.

Please let me know if Filezilla is HIPAA compliant. If it is not do you know if other FTP programs are? Thank you

FTP clients are typically HIPPA compliant. HIPPA requires that FTP clients be HIPPA compliant through SSL, TLS or SSH/SFTP with at least a 128-bit secure connection. Filezilla supports FTP over SSL/TLS (FTPS) and SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP). In other words you are OK to use Filezilla.

Scan won't send the files to the network folder

Hello,
1 - If connecting via the IP adress, please check that the IP address for the destination's folder hasn't changed (if it is an automatic ip address, i'll recomment placing a fixed one,
2 - Check the folder's permissions, you can try to allow anyone for that folder, write and execute for all users.
3 - If you transfer files via the FTP protocol, then you should enable file sharing with the ftp service active (port 21):
Thias is what i have found for windows xp:
"XP includes a built-in FTP service component that lets FTP clients connect to the machine and read or write files; however, this service doesn't install by default. To install the FTP service, perform the following steps:
- Start the Control Panel Add/Remove Programs applet (go to Start, Control Panel, then click Add/Remove Programs).
- Select Add/Remove Windows Components.
- Select Internet Information Services (IIS), then click Details.
- Select the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Service check box, then click OK.
- Click OK to close all dialog boxes."

hope these things help

I am connected to verizon fios and then wired to a 8 port linysis to my office. I can not connect Now. It's been working fine for months. Now I get a yellow triangle. Limited or no connectivity

Let's check some settings for the network connections. Click on "start" - "settings" - "control panel" - "network connections".
First we'll check the ethernet connection. Right click on "local area connection" - "properties" - choose "Internet protocol (TCP/IP)" - "properties". In case of not at automatically settings click on both buttons to "obtain an IP address automatically" and "obtain DNS server address automatically".
Click on OK at both windows.
Now we'll check the Wi-fi connection. Right click on "Wireless connection" - "properties" - choose "Internet protocol (TCP/IP)" - "properties". In case of not at automatically settings click on both buttons to "obtain an IP address automatically" and "obtain DNS server address automatically".
Click on OK at both windows.

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.

Can you tell me what an ip addresse is im trying to connect to xbox live and it keeps asking for ip addresse

Every device connected to the public internet is assigned a unique number known as an internet protocol (IP) address. IP addresses consist of four numbers separated by periods(also called a 'dotted-quad') and look something like 127.0.0.1

since these numbers are usually assigned to internet service providers with region based blocks, an IP address can often be used to identify the region or country from which a computer is connecting to the internet. an IP adress can sometimes be used to show the users general location because the numbers may be tedious to deal with, an IP adress may also be assigned to a host name, which is sometimes easier to remember hostnames may be looked up to find IP adresses, and vice-versa. at one time ISPs issued one IP adress to each user. These are called static IP addresses. beacuse there is a limited number of IP adresses and with increased usage of the internet ISPs now issue IP adresses in a dynamic fashion out of a pool of IP addresses (using DHCP). these are referred to as dynamic IP addresses. This also limits the ability of the user to host websites mail servers, ftp servers, etc. in addition to users connecting to the internet with virtual hosting,a single machine can act like multiple machines (with multiple domain names and IP addresses).
