I have a Samsung 34x digital camcorder RW-R model. After recording to a disk, when I go to record again it erases anything that was originally on the disk. I've seen other complaints about this. Is there any way to stop this from happening?

Yes, this happened to my miniDVD-R and -RW disks as well. No, don't reformat the disk ! I've been
able to recover all (if not most) of the contents - video clips from
those (bad/corrupted) miniDVD-RW ... and miniDVD-R
disks ... (that I had recorded using the Samsung camcorder). I use the
software tool - IsoBuster Pro . Inserted the mini-DVD into the DVD
drive on my PC/laptop, and started the software . The process (to
recover) may be very long .. i.e. it may take several to many hours for
one miniDVD disk ... but it eventually enable me to retrieve the (lost)
video clips.
you cant delete anything that has been burnt to a disk unless its a its a dvd -rw Short for DVD-ReWritable, a re-recordable DVD format similar to CD-RW or DVD+RW. The data on a DVD-RW disc can be erased and recorded over numerous times without damaging the medium. DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD-RAM are supported by Panasonic, Toshiba, Apple Computer, Hitachi, NEC, Pioneer, Samsung and Sharp. These formats are also supported by the DVD Forum.
it would actually depend on the type of disc your using for you to be able to erase the contents of the disc and reuse that same disc for new recordings. it's called "formatting the disc". it deletes all recordings and returns the recording medium to its original empty state. this operation is possible if you are using dvd-rw or dvd+rw (re-writeable) discs only. please refer to pp.12-13 of your camcorder's instruction manual for more information about disc format features. hope this helps. thanks:)
Which recordable disks are you asking about? "Erase" will only work on CD-RW and does nothing on CD-R.
Once you've recorded onto CD-R all you can do is add additional material to it until the disk is finalised to allow it to be played on virtually all CD players. The same goes with CD-RW, but with those you have the option to erase the entire disk and start again from scratch. You can also delete individual tracks from a CD-RW but the space does not become available for additional recordings until the disk is totally erased.
Perhaps you'll find the .pdf manual to be of use:-
you have to upload the film onto your computer and change the settings so that it can be put on to a cd/dvd for your dvd player to work it. hope this helps.
The possibility of this varies from handycam to handycam but it is most likely related to the type of disk you are using.some disks can only record one session. it is important to read the instructions that came with the disk.generally disks marked 'DVD-R' can only record one session whereas disks marked DVD-RW can record several sessions and can even be erased and recorded on again as new.
pse reply if this helps you

I know it won't play in a dvd player till it is finalized. Leave it in camera mode, hit menu, and scroll down till you see the option to finalize. If you finalize it, it should play in a dvd player. I am having a problem with my camera(same model) where it won't finalize the disc. Any help out there?
