You will need to turn on the WPA or WEP security encryption on your router. You can get to the router settings by using a computer connected directly to the router using a lan cable. You will need to use 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 on your internet browser. This will take you to a screen asking for a user name and password. The default setting is nothing for the username and password is "admin". From there you can turn on the WEP or WPA encryption and create a passkey. Then each computer will need to have the passkey stored to gain connection to the router. This will also keep anyone else from connecting to your router without the passkey. And make sure to change the user name and password for your router so no one can change the settings on it.

My 10 in. tablet keeps going off wi fi and you can fix it but it still keeps going off.

Marie,

Make sure that you're attempting to connect to the right WiFi hotspot. The tablet may be attempting to connect to a WiFi signal that different from what you expect (a neighbor's, etc.).

Once you're certain that your accessing the intended WiFi signal, attempt your password again. Depending on model tablet, you may be able to keep the password displayed as you type for review before entering to connect. If not, carefully review each character on screen after touching each to see that it is correct (not capitalized, or number or symbol instead). Backspace as needed to make corrections as needed.

After seeing that the WiFi password is being sent properly to the intended WiFi signal, you will connect.

Can i connect to a wireless network like wifi without a cable network

Yes but you will still have some kind of computer sevicenetwork to receive the signal to the wiireless wifi..unless you have close neighbors who have the service and have their Wifi set for others to use...example stores and restaurants that have free WIFI where you are using their service..only in this case your neighbors..good luck..

What is belkin186 have to do with end user an wifi on my phone? Is this a neighbors wifi conect? Am i stealing? Every time i go to wifi belkin186 is instantly conected.is this my wifi?

Belkin 186 is a wifi that is open. It could be a neighbor's wifi. The fault is that this is an open connection and your phone finds it. In your phone there is a network selection option in this if you open will find other available connections. select the one you want key in your password and you are ready to go. you can selct wifi186 and selct forget. should work

depending on your location - check with others to see who they use, then either call them or go online to check availability, pricing and sometimes you can even order online! I have AT&T Uverse and if you go to ATT dot com- then go to SHOP tab, you can see availability by your address and order internet - TV- and even phone service. It will also show different pricing according to the speed of internet. You want faster if you watch videos and movies online. You also may have a Cable company in your area, where I live it is Cox Cable and Time Warner Cable companies. So you may have to search online or ask neighbors who they use and go from there and find their website to call them or order online. At&t I ordered, then got the Wireless Wifi router box so can hook up main computer and use your laptop or other devices with it wirelessly. so keep that in mind when ordering also - my neighbor doesn't have any laptop or any other stuff so he was happy to get a Wired router, with No wireless wifi connection

Wifi conection is on but it keeps throughing me out of the network

Try using another channel, default channels on the router often conflict with cordless phones, yours or your neighbors. Higher channel usually resolves the problem.

Well, I bought this to take to public places with Wi-Fi. Will it work there? Also, I don't have wi-fi at home but my friend uses her laptop at my house saying it probably works because a neibor has Wi-Fi....

It should work fine if the public places have open (non-secure) WI-FI. Try it at your local library.
I would not use your neighbor non-secure WIFI since it can be trace back to you and it is not fair to use your neighbor for free unless you ask your neighbor or offer to share the cost which is probably the best thing to do to reduce the cost.

Need help using router

First of all your neighbor must be able to reach your signal. When they start up their wireless application they must be able to see your SSID, and have enough signal strength to actually connect and do meaningful work. This might be the case already, or you may need to put in a repeater closer to your neighbor. You r neighbor could also purchase an external directional wifi antenna from radio shack to improve reception. I have used Cantennas (look like a Pringles Can) before and they work ok.

Once you have signal then you just need to give your neighbor the password to your wifi network for them to enter into their network application. This password was setup when you setup the wireless network. You probably wrote it down, or it is a common password that you use.

The rest should be seemless, depending on the signal strength.
