I have exactly the same problem. When the device (i.e. HT-X40) has been off for a longer period, it may take 10-15 minutes until the display says "protection" and then shuts off. When I right after turn it on again it happens after 30 seconds, and the device is thereafter basically useless, until it has "cooled off" for a while.

same problem. The unit itself doesn't seem to be too hot. I have even put fans on it to see if that help. no joy.

Same problem. Seems to be a consistent fault, but no-one online seems to be able to find a solution. Hope its not an expensive/terminal fault!

I have the exact same problem. I have gone round and round with Samsung about to to avail. They said it was the fan so I ordered one and installed and nothing changed. They want me to send it in. Yeah, right, we all know how much that will cost. So I'm still holding out for a solution online.

i have my tv audio out connected to aux 2 and so far that is the only audio setting on this POS that doesn't go into protection and turn off.

also, i have put fans behind it to keep it cool to no avail. this tells me for sure that it's not an over heating problem since it doesn't shut off when i'm on aux 2.

happens consistently when i'm using the optical audio cable on digital in, and now is happening while watching a dvd after about an hour...this is new. hooking up my mp3 player to the usb shuts if off also.

This is ridiculous!!!! does anyone have a solution yet? Because i am having the protection problem as well. Has this system been recalled yet?

I have same problem. So upsetting. I even opened the system and looked to see if anything was burned up inside. but no. everything looks perfect as it should be. so now I don't know what the problem is!!

Right now I wish the capacitors were burned as most people are saying. it would cost just couple of bucks to fix it.

    Any solution guys?

Additionally I think Samsung should do a recall on their home theater system and fix it free of charge. Everybody who owns any Samsung home theater system ends up with this same problem sooner or later..!! ****!

SOURCE: SAMSUNG HT-TZ212 home cinema kit comes up with protect

Protect mode will kicking whenever a fault is detected.

Causes that can start protect mode are:

Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.

Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.

Internal fault.
Internal fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the product documentation.

I cant get my samsung home cinema system to play through my t.v

I bought the optical audio cable ($15 WalMart) and use the Digital In on the DVD player to play the sound through the surround system and turned the TV speakers off. Works great! The optial audio has square ends and looks transparent with just one round shaped cable that goes from the TV to the back of the DVD player.

Trying to install a new 50

a good way to go is to connect the home cinema kit staight to the tv though phono leads, see if your tv has a phono in and out this must not be a av socket. you should then connect it in to your cinema kit so what ever you watch comes though ur cinema system

hope this helps
