Question about Hotpoint VBXR1090D Top Load Washer

Hotpoint VBXR1090 Washer

My washer sometimes won't Aggitate, a couple nights ago, it quit.
I pulled off the front cover, felt the motor, it was pretty hot.
I replaced the stabilizer cords on each side yesterday. One was broken.
When I let it cool, it started working. Does the motor have a load relay on
it that when it gets hot, it stops ??
Sometimes it won't aggitate on a small load neither.

It's not that old, I replaced the Rubber Shock Straps, one was broke. Releved it and it's not had one problem.

Sounds like your brushes need replaced or your motor would try the brushes first

Hotpoint washer won't spin or agitate and has black soot - is clutch out?

The motor coupling is attached to the shaft of the motor. The "soot" is probably the result of the coupling shredding prior to failing

My kenmore 700 washer model 110.29722800 will fill with water, and then stop. It tries to aggitate and spin, and makes a low humming noise, like it's trying to to its job. It won't drain the water,...

Hello, welcome to FixYa.

Based on the info you provided in your post, it quite likely is the drive coupling that has broken...it is very common, that would indeed explain the noise appearing to be from the motor. (possibly a jammed pump too, but you'd know if it drains or not by advancing the timer)

**Unplug the washer from it's source/the wall before performing any service to the unit...safety first**

To inspect the drive coupling to confirm it is broken or not, you can lean the washer back (careful of the hoses) to allow you to visually inspect it or remove the cabinet completely...it is fairly straight forward and can be done even by a novice "handyman/person"

Part number is 285753A and will look like this image....

I've attached a link here that will provide the part availability and clear instructions to replace the coupling but also help describe the removal of the cabinet or to just inspect everything thoroughly. Once there scroll to the bottom of the page.

Let me know how you make out or if you require further assistance and I'll be glad to help in any manner I can. Good luck.

Washer aggitate for 20 seconds then stops, starts

This could be your control switch. Remove the front cover at the top that has the dials on. Check main switch unit, it probably needs to be rebuilt, about $35 or installed new.

Washer will not spin. Does everything else.

If it aggitates, then the tranny and motor coupling is ok. the drive assembly is bad. nintey perent of the no spin problems is motor coupling problem. But since yours will aggitate, then the coupling is fine.

Aggitator won't work and won't spin/ drains ok

Coupling is bad.
There is a coupling between the motor and the transmission. When this part breaks then it will pump the water out but won't spin or aggitate.

Series 70 washer will not aggitate, spin or drain

Even "empty" - there is still water in the tub to keep the seals moist.

Let it thaw completely - or put some hot water in the tub to thaw.

You may already have damaged the coupling/drive belt if it was frozen.

Clothes get caught between drum at front of dryer

the drum has either worn out its felt(front), a fabric bearing, or the roller(rear) bearings, or both, and dropped enough to make a gap. new rollers are3 about $15 /pair, felts between $13 & $90 depending on model.
Generic replacement is simple, and really while you got it apart, do both, the strain of twisting off axis will make the remaining good end fail shortly
The generic steps may not be correct for the actual dryer model.

Felt seal
for most dryers,
Go buy HiTemperature silicone adhesive (tube)
tools required couple pairs locking pliers/visegrips screwdrivers

Unplug dryer
remove the front cover, either
  • couple screws at the bottom and spring clips to pop off with a screw driver OR
  • couple of spring clips to hold the top lid on, then screws top and bottom of both sides

examine the case to find the exact mounting
unclip cables from door switch
set front panel aside
unhook drive belt from tensioner pulley
pull drum forward and out

remove old felt
scrape off old adhesive
put adhesive per instructions (some 2 surfaces some 1) on drum/felt
clip felt in place on drum with visegrip at 1 point
stretch felt around drum, gluing and clipping in place with vicegrips as you go
allow glue to set

reassemble in reverse order

Roller bearings
for most dryers,
tools required needle pliers/visegrips screwdrivers

Unplug dryer
remove the front cover, either

  • couple screws at the bottom and spring clips to pop off with a screw driver OR
  • couple of spring clips to hold the top lid on, then screws top and bottom of both sides

examine the case to find the exact mounting
unclip cables from door switch
set front panel aside
unhook drive belt from tensioner pulley
pull drum forward and out

remove old rollers:
  • pry triangular circlip from axle post
  • discard circlip
  • remove and discard roller
  • install new roller
  • install new circlip
    ALWAYS replace rollers in pairs

    reassemble in reverse order
wow took longer to type than it actually takes to do it
