Depending on the audio hardware configuration, you may have a hardware conflict.

If you have an expansion sound card (Usually a Soundblaster card in the slots below the video card) then you need to ensure the integrated audio in BIOS is DISABLED.

If you have no expansion card, then ensure the BIOS Audio device is ENABLED.

If integrated and no device found in Device Manager, turn it off in BIOS, reboot then reenable it and see if it is detected.

If issue still continues, try flashing the BIOS and see if that resolves. If no change, you may end up getting an expansion audio card or resintalling Windows to resolve.

No sound from my speakers after i pluged the into a dell desktop

Look for speaker icon in task area (right side of task bar). If there is a red x on it it means the speakers are muted or the sound device drivers are not loaded or the sound device is disabled. Click on speaker icon and go to mixer. Check for muting. If it says sound device is not present then open Control Panel by clicking on Start or Windows button in lower left corner, go to Control panel, often abbreviated "CP" then click on system then on device manager and see if Sound, video and game controllers has an audio device listed. If not you'll have to acquire the drivers from the dell driver download site and apply them. If it does and device shows disabled, then click on it and enable it. If there is no sound device then check for an "Other device" entry in device manager. It'll usually have a yellow ! on it. That means a device was identified by plug and play but the system could not find a driver for it. Go to windows update service in CP and run find updates. If Windows finds an upated sound driver, install it. It will install and plug and play and set up device. Otherwise off to www.dell.com with the service tag number of the computer---found on back or top of system. This will lead to the downloads and drivers page for your specific box. Look down list for Sound drivers, download and install them. Usually with dell it downloads as an executable (Rnnnnnn.exe) and all you have to do it click on the file name to run and install it. After download If in Vista or Windows 7 I always right click on file name and chose "Run as administrator" whenever installing like that. That makes sure you have adequate permissions to do the install and have to install correctly.

Also it goes without saying to make sure you have plugged the audio in lead to speaker set into the correct sound plug on back plane of system (usually the green one).

Can you please help me how to switch my laptop camera on

Every system comes with an application for a camera to work. So what you need to do is find the Dell Media Direct that will probably get you the camera. If not make sure it's set in your BIOS.

I HAVE NO SOUND

First of all make sure your volume is up, and also make sure you haven't enabled mute by using the "fn" key and one of the "F1, F2 etc." keys.
Click "Start" or Windows icon in the bottom left of the screen. Right click "My Computer or Computer" Select properties click "device manager" find the entry for sound check to see that an audio device is listed right click the device and select properties is it listed as working? try updating the driver listed in the "driver" tab.
also here is a link to the driver download page for the dell 1501. make sure you select the correct OS (windows xp or vista) that is installed on your machine. then download the appropriate audio driver from the list. open the file from where ever your downloads are saved and run it. This should open kind of like an application installer does and will guide you through the driver installation process.
hope this helps.

No sound since installing xp

Unfortunately your best bet on your Inspriron 531s is to go back to Vista. According to Dell, this system was specifically setup to run Vista and, therefore, no XP drivers are guaranteed to work on this model. Most of the time for onboard devices, if they are not listed on the site, they are usually native to the operating system and do not require a driver download. Dell does, however, have some XP drivers for this model listed on their support site here

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WW1&osl=EN&catid=-1&impid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=INSP_DSKTP_D531S&hidos=WW1&hidlang=en

The only audio driver listed is for a Creative Labs X-Fi sound card and I am not sure that is what you have. Your best bet is to uninstall your sound card drivers, reboot, then install these. Good Luck
