Hello,

The service 50 error indicates a bad fuser assembly. You can get one on Ebay for less than $50. To replace the fuser just open the door on the back of the printer, inside you will see the fuser, unscrew the 2 screws and pull the old one out. Insert the new fuser and screw it down, power on the printer and you should be good to go.

I hope this helps, If so please rate our solution.

HP Laserjet 4M Plus

That sounds like a problem with your printer driver to me. If the wrong driver is used, then print codes that the other device uses will not be interpreted correctly by your Laserjet 4M Plus, which will cause it to beep. Check the driver on your computer to make sure that you are using one designed for any of the following:

HP Laserjet 4
HP Laserjet 4+
HP Laserjet 4M
HP Laserjet 4M Plus

(Either the symbol "+" or the word "Plus" may be used but most commonly the + is the non-Postscript version and the word is used with the Postscript version. Just as an FYI, the only two differences between the M and non-M versions are the ability to speak Appletalk and the addition of the Postscript module, which is in one of the RAM expansion slots.)

40 MIO ERROR

HP's support document on error 13 paper jam:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=110&prodSeriesId=25484&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=25484&objectID=bpl01309

According to my "HP LaserJet Family Quick Reference Service Guide, Vol. 1", on page 38 and 39:

40 Error (data transfer error)

(among other possibilities, these two seem most applicable:)

- The MIO card is unseated or defective - remove, reseat, or replace the MIO card

- An abnormal connection break occurred while transferring data from the computer.

The manual further indicates that a 40.1 means the MIO in slot 1 has the problem; a 40.2 means the MIO in slot 2 has the problem.

I'd try turning the printer off and reseating the card, and if that doesn't work, try swapping it out if you can.

let me know if you need further assistance, Joe

Mac laptop hooked up to HP laserjet 4 plus gets error message:

This printer will not work with a Mac - it has no postscript.

The only laserjet 4's that work with Macs all have an "M" in their name - 4M, 4M Plus etc.

You might be able to get a Postscript personality module for the printer to effectively upgrade it to the "M" version.

Printer is not printing

The error is a loss of laser beam detect error. Your problem is the laser scanner has burned out. The replacement is easy to accomplish. You simply have to remove the full top cover (3 screws and 1 clip near front right corner). You'll need to remove the side cover first. Once the covers are removed, look for a large black box (about 4" x 6") held in place by 4 screws. The part is available from Dale at Seattle Platen, 1-800-221-2388. Ask for a refurbished on exchange.

Hope that helps you.

Test the printer itself to see if it will print a configuration page. This page will tell you if the IP addresss is still intact.

Error 13-jam paper HP Laser 4+

HP LaserJet 4, 4m, 4 Plus and 4m Plus Series Printers - False Error Message 13 PAPER JAM ISSUE: After clearing all jammed paper from the HP LaserJet 4, 4m, 4 Plus, or 4m Plus series printer, the display still reads 13 Paper Jam . Even after cycling the power off and then back on, the error remains. SOLUTION: Open the rear door of the printer. There is a paper sensor near the upper right hand corner of the fusing assembly (just below the right edge of the long yellow warning sticker on the fuser) that can cause paper jam error messages even when there is no jammed paper in the printer. Toggle the thin black plastic lever up and down to make sure it is not stuck or sticky. The lever should be in the down position before closing the back of the printer. If the lever is stuck or missing, the printer will generate a false paper jam message. Hope it will help you !

50 service problem

Hello,

Please try below solution.

ERROR 50 - Service

A 50 service error can be either a temporary error or a permanent problem requiring service.

Temporary Error: Power off for 20 minutes to allow the capacitor on the DC controller to fully discharge. If you don't allow this capacitor to discharge, you will still get a Error 50 even if you have fixed the problem.  This may clear the error - either temporarily or permanently. If it clears the error it was most likely caused by a low power problem  i.e. low line voltage causing the power supply circuits to drop out of regulation. Low/unstable power (low line voltage, brownout condition).  If it doesn't clear the error you may have one of the problems listed below

On the HP LaserJet 4L/4ML, errors are indicated by a series of indicator lights.  This printer has four lights, Paper Jam, Paper Out, Data, and Online.

If all four lights are on, press and hold the blue panel button to display a secondary light pattern.

An error 50 is indicated by the ready and error lights with the blue panel button pressed.

Turn the printer off for 15 minutes to see if the error clears.  If not, you will need to remove the fuser assembly to perform further checks.  This requires removal of the cover, an unpleasant task, and measurement of the fuser terminals.

Note: THERE ARE FURTHER STEPS TO CHECK THE ISSUE, HOWEVER IT IS NOT RECOMMENED TO CHECK USING YOU  ARE A USER, FURTHER STEPS NEED TO BE DONE ONLY IF YOU ARE COMFORTABLE AND INVOLVES MECHNICAL ISSUES OF PRINTER.

For your convienience, I will would like to provide the web link that shows the picture of the scene

link is:

http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/reference/guides/fuser/ex

try the things that are mentioned in web link. If the issue persists, then Printer needs to serviced.

I hope that this should resolve the issue for you.

If you need any further assistance, please let me know. I'll be glad to help you.

Bye.
