LG DLG8388WM won't heat ...

My DLG 8388 won't produce any heat - anyone know what the probable causes are? Gas supply is fine ....

  • daievans Apr 24, 2014

I fixed it by replacing the gas valve/solenoid .... it was pretty straightforward, once i'd tried a few other potential causes!

It could be a clog in the supply pipes inside the dryer itself or a faulty regulator your best bet it to find a local repair shop as dealing with any gas appliance without proper knowledge can destroy your appliance or worse you PS: do you smell gas when it runs if so then it could be the igniter is faulty!

HELLO:
Have you looked at the over heat sensor on the left hand bottom of the burner pipe?
I found this and with a simple test with a butane lighter.
I used a cheep Digital volt meter and set it to ohms.
The sensor was open meanning that their was no connection between the terminals.
On the rear of this sensor there is a small button.
When I pushed the button I hear it click and the switch closed up.
I reinstalled it and the machine work perfect.
I think this is a fail safe if the exaust flue becomes clogged.
Otherwise why would it have a re-set button on it?
I am not a service / repair person.
Unplug the unit before you take the lid and front cover off.
the burner unit is in the lower right hand corner as you face the dryer.
The top comes off first and then the control panel and then you can remove the door and fron panel to expose the blower and burner.

Be carful and good luck.

Uncle Ed.

can you look in one of the holes in the back and see if the inside glows orange after you turn it on? If it doesn't could be the igniter, if it does glow orange, clicks or clacks, and glows again 20-30 seconds later, click/clack and nothing, it's probably the gas valve. I'm going through the same thing with a new one and they had to order the valve and a new controller board in case it is bad too. If you are handy, have an electronic tester, and have the patience, go to http://136.166.4.200/contents/Laundry/DLG3788.htm for the service manual and disassembly instructions and see if you want to tackle the test flow for no heat. I just stumbled on the site.

This can obviously be several things, but I would first check the small safety thermostat. On the gas models, there is a small pin sticking out of it which can be pushed back in to reset it. It is located on the heater housing and is only about the size of a dime, with two wires on it. This will trip out easily if your vent was not clean, or is long or restricted in some ways (like using flex ducting)
If you need more help getting to it, let me know and I'll give you more instructions.

How do you change the roller posts for LG dryer DLG8388WM so it fits LG's recommended roller, AGM75510755?

I have spent half an hour researching the question as I noticed it wasn't answered since I read it last night..

K250 and K251 on the schematic. Is your post the wrong diameter? It looks a standard swap over and none of the parts suppliers mention any modification. That makes mw wonder if yours are mislabeled.

I have a DLG8388WM LG dryer i have changed the ignitor and the thermostat twice now it still will not stay lit.it lites then goes out within a second what else could it be.

It's common for a problem like this with a gas dryer to be cause by a bad coil on the gas valve.
This is often a simple and cheap repair, but I looked up you model number and I don't believe you can get a replacement coil on this model LG dryer so you would then need to replace the gas valve, part # 5221EL2002A
