Toner life end

We just replaced the toner cartridge, it's brand new. and it still reads "toner life end." So I pulled cartridge out and reinserted "new" cartridge, it prints a few faxes then goes back to the same message "toner life end" "replace cartridge." Please advise. Is there a process to "reset" a new cartridge?

Thank you! Shaking the cartridge "vigorously" fixed the problem. I have had to shake it several times but it does work, so you were right the toner must've become solid. Thanks so much!

There is no reset code the likely thing is that you have a faulty toner cartridge. Put another new one in and check the machine then.

Before you try the above shake the toner cartridge and tap it some more as it may also be the toner inside have become solid and needs breaking up.

Hope one of the above works for you
Thanks J

I have a Brother Laser Printer HL-5350DN. I refill toner myself but the toner light will not go out. How do I reset it so it goes off?

There is a reset gear in the cartridge that needs to be "reset" or replaced. I've included a link to a PDF file that goes over the procedure to properly refill and reset the toner cartridge. This is a document that is used by a company that does a complete rebuild, so you probably won't need most of the information, just the part on resetting the reset gear.

I am changing the ink cartridge i put the new one in and it keeps saying End of life and it has a new cartridge what do i do

Here is the solution that will reset the count and allow your fully functional toner cartridge (the one the printer tells you is empty) to continue to work.

Open the front cover.
Press options button.
Press the start button.
Press + or up arrow button 10 times.
Press set button.

You have to do this with a long pause or the system will reset and you will have to start over.

Good luck.

Inatallation of a printer

Hello , I believe I can help you out.

First here is a bit about your machines toner maintenance.

Second will be how to change the cartridge.

Remember if I was of assistance please be kind and leave a kind quick testimonial and good rating.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maintaining the toner cartridge
Toner cartridge storage
Toner cartridges contain components that are sensitive to
light, temperature, and humidity. Samsung suggests users
follow the recommendations to ensure the optimum
performance, highest quality, and longest life from your
new Samsung toner cartridge.
Store this cartridge in the same environment as the printer
it will be used in; this should be in controlled office
temperature and humidity conditions. The toner cartridge
should remain in its original, unopened package until
installation – If original packaging is not available, cover
the top opening of the cartridge with paper and store in a
dark cabinet.
Opening the cartridge package prior to use dramatically
shortens its useful shelf and operating life. Do not store on
the floor. If the toner cartridge is removed from the printer,
always store the cartridge:
• Inside the protective bag from the original package
• Correct side up in a horizontal position (not standing on
end)
• Do not store consumables in;
- Temperature greater than 40°C (104°F).
- Humidity range less than 20% and not greater than
80%.
- An environment with extreme changes in humidity or
temperature.
- Direct sunlight or room light.
- Dusty places.
- A car for a long period of time.
- An environment where corrosive gases are present.
• An environment with salty air.
Handling instructions
• Do not touch the surface of the photosensitive drum in
the cartridge.
• Do not expose the cartridge to unnecessary vibrations
or shock.
• Never manually rotate the drum, especially in the
reverse direction; this can cause internal damage and
toner spillage.
Use of non-Samsung and refilled toner
cartridge
Samsung Electronics does not recommend or approve the
use of non-Samsung brand toner cartridges in your printer
including generic, store brand, refilled, or remanufactured
toner cartridges.
CAUTION: Samsung’s printer warranty does not cover damage to
the machine caused by the use of a refilled, remanufactured, or
non-Samsung brand toner cartridge.
Estimated cartridge life
Estimated cartridge life (the life of the toner cartridge yield)
depends on the amount of toner that print jobs require. The
actual print-out number may vary depending on the print
density of the pages you print on, operating environment,
printing interval, media type, and/or media size. For
example, if you print a lot of graphics, the consumption of
the toner is high and you may need to change the cartridge
more often.
Redistributing the toner cartridge
When the toner cartridge is near the end of its life:
• White streaks or light printing occurs.
• The warning message, Toner Low displays on the control
panel.
• The Smart Panel program window appears on the computer
telling you that the toner cartridge is low on toner.
• The Status LED blinks red.
If this happens, you can temporarily reestablish print quality by
redistributing the remaining toner in the toner cartridge. In
some cases, white streaks or light printing will still occur even
after you have redistributed the toner.
1 Open the front cover.
2 Pull the toner cartridge out.
3 Thoroughly roll the toner cartridge 5 or 6 times to
distribute the toner evenly inside the toner cartridge.
NOTE: If toner gets on your clothing, wipe it off with a dry
cloth and wash clothing in cold water. Hot water sets toner into
fabric

Changing cartridge:
_______________________________________________________

CAUTION: Do not touch the green underside of the toner
cartridge. Use the handle on the toner cartridge to avoid
touching this area.

4 Hold the toner cartridge by the handle and slowly insert
the toner cartridge into the opening in the machine.

5 Tabs on the sides of the toner cartridge and corresponding
grooves within the machine will guide the toner cartridge
into the correct position until it locks into place completely.

6 Close the front cover. Make sure that the cover is securely
closed.

Replacing the toner cartridge
When the toner cartridge is completely empty:

• The printer stops printing.

• The Smart Panel program window appears on the computer
telling you that the toner cartridge is empty.

• The Status LED lights red.

At this stage, the toner cartridge needs to be replaced. For
order information for toner cartridges, see page 7.1.

1 Pull the toner cartridge out.

2 Remove the new toner cartridge from its bag.

3 Roll the toner cartridge 5 or 6 items to distribute the toner
evenly inside the toner cartridge.

Thoroughly rolling the toner cartridge will assure
maximum copies per toner cartridge.

4 Remove the paper protecting the toner cartridge.

NOTE: If toner gets on your clothing, wipe it off with a dry
cloth and wash clothing in cold water. Hot water sets toner into
fabric.

CAUTION: Do not touch the green underside of the toner
cartridge. Use the handle on the toner cartridge to avoid
touching this area.

5 Hold the toner cartridge by the handle and slowly insert
the toner cartridge into the opening in the machine.

6 Tabs on the sides of the toner cartridge and corresponding
grooves within the machine will guide the toner cartridge
into the correct position until it locks into place completely.

7 Close the front cover. Make sure that the cover is securely
closed.

Toner Life End message on DCP-7040

If your cartridge has a lever on the left side near the rear, it needs to be reset, and there's a lever inside on the left that can stick and cause that error. You need to wiggle and pull that lever until it moves freely again.

The toner tray will not pull out from the machine

Replacing the Toner Cartridge
The MFC can print up to 6,000 pages using a high yield toner cartridge. When
the toner cartridge is running low, the LCD shows TONER LOW. The MFC is
supplied with a standard toner cartridge that must be replaced after
approximately 3,000 pages. Actual page count will vary depending on your
average document type (i.e., standard letter, detailed graphics).
Discard the used toner cartridge according to local regulations. If you are not
sure of them, your local Sanitation Department. Be sure to seal the toner
cartridge tightly so toner powder does not spill out of the cartridge. When
discarding used toner cartridges, keep them separate from domestic garbage.
We recommend that you clean the MFC when you replace the toner cartridge.
1 Open the front cover and pull out the drum unit.
Place the drum unit on a drop cloth or large piece of disposable paper to avoid
spilling and scattering the toner.
2 Hold down the lock lever on the right and pull the toner cartridge out of the drum
unit assembly.
Caution
Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes,
immediately wipe it off or wash it with cold water.
3 Unpack the new toner cartridge. Place the used toner cartridge into the
aluminum bag and discard it according to local regulations.
Wait to unpack the toner cartridge until immediately before you install it in the
MFC. If a toner cartridge is left unpacked for a long period of time, the toner life
is shortened.
You can use only a genuine Brother toner cartridge (TN-430 or TN-460), which
is specially formulated to ensure top print quality. Using another brand of toner
cartridge may void your MFC’s warranty. Warranty coverage does not apply to
problems caused by the use of 3rd party Toner, 3rd party Toner Cartridge or 3rd
party Drum unit.
4 Gently rock the toner cartidge from side
to side five or six times to distribute the
toner evenly inside the cartridge.
5 Remove the protective cover.
6 Insert the new toner cartridge in the
drum unit until it clicks into place.
7 Clean the primary corona
wire inside the drum unit by
gently sliding the blue tab
from right to left several
times. Return the blue tab to
the Home position ( )
before reinstalling the drum
unit assembly.
Reinstall the drum unit and close the
front cover.
Replacing the Drum Unit
The MFC uses a drum unit to create print images on paper. If the LCD shows
CHANGE DRUM SOON, the drum unit is near the end of its life and it is time
to purchase a new one.
Even if the LCD shows CHANGE DRUM SOON, you may be able to continue
printing without having to replace the drum unit for a while. However, if there
is a noticeable deterioration in the output print quality (even before CHANGE
DRUM SOON appears), then the drum unit should be replaced. You should
clean the MFC when you replace the drum unit. (See page 21-18.)
Caution
When removing the drum unit, handle it carefully because it contains toner. If
toner scatters and your hands or clothes get dirty, immediately wipe or wash
with cold water.
WARNING
Just after you have used the MFC, some
internal parts of the MFC are extremely
HOT! So please be careful.
The drum unit is a consumable item, and it is necessary to replace it periodically.
There are many factors that determine the actual drum life, such as temperature,
humidity, type of paper and how much toner you use for the number of pages per print
job. The estimated drum life is up to 20,000 pages. The actual number of pages your
drum will print may be significantly less than these estimates. Because we have no
control over the many factors that determine the actual drum life, we cannot
guarantee a minimum number of pages that will be printed by your drum.

The printer will sudden come up with the Toner Empty message and stop printing. This only happens on the black toner cartridge. I have replaced the cartridge twice when then cartridge was clearly not...

There are two ways to continue printing:
Setting the menus to allow continued printing after it reports a toner empty
Mechanically resetting the toner cartridge

there is a way to reset the toner cartridge essentially fooling the printer into thinking it has a brand new cartridge. It has a mechanical linkage which will display a small shiny surface when deemed empty by a SW gas meter. (number of dots printed) To reset this linkage it is necessary to remove 3 phillips screws on the end of the toner cartridge which faces the back of the printer. Don't touch the rubber roller or you will get toner all over yourself and possibly contaminate the roller. If touched use rubbing alcohol on a swab to clean off the oil spot. Then on the bottom of the cartridge there is a small black phillips screw going through a copper contact. remove the screw. Lift the copper contact slichtly and pull the plastic end cap off the toner cartridge. remove and reinsert the black plastic interlock device (slides on a plastic rail) such that the sliver surface is fully retracted. replace the end cap, guiding the copper strap in place. Reinsert the 4 screws. Reinsert the used cartridge and keep on printing! Should save you about 20% on the needless replacement of perfectly good toner cartridges. I expect you could refill the cartridge as well if you wanted. Looks like there is a plug under the color coded handle in the front of the cartridge. Be sure to reset the latch as described also.
I hope your problem gets solved. Regards, Nandini.

Change of toner

I have a brother mfc 7840w

I first used the electrical tape trick and that worked for a while. Then got the toner low message again. I then tried the *00 trick, which works as follows:

1. lift lid and open front cover
2. press clear/back. "Replace Drum?" will appear on the screen.
3. Press "*00" it will then read accepted and the toner low error (End of Toner Life) should go away.
4. close it all up and your done.
