It's a Format... I think It's a 644 but maybe a 648. Just moved in and switched it on at the wall. Hob and top oven/ grill works, but main oven doesn't. Light doesn't come on, or the fan. Also, the digital display doesn't change when I press the buttons. 0.00 and AUTO flash alternately. No manual either. Please help!

Timer must be set to any time of day for ovens to work, niormally you need to press either 2 or 3 buttons together to set time, if this fails you need to bypass the timer ele ctrically

tripping a circuit breaker indicates a dead short or insulation failure
not being able to move the main switch indicates that the contacts inside are burnt together
only option is to call an accredited electrician to test the circuits and rectify the fault
tell him to bring spare elements is case on e or both have burnt out
Both the top and bottom oven will only work if a time (any time) has been set on the clock. Setting the time operates a contact to switch the power through. The only exception is the grill. This will work even if the time has not been set. So if the oven controls/lights and heating work, to me it means that the clock/timer is half working and the only thing that isn't is the display.
I haven't had the clock/timer to bits but a fellow blogger has said that in some timers there is an electrolytic capacitor that controls the display. When this fails as they are renowned for doing, the dispaly mal functions. If there is one then Maplin have some - VHR41W/43W and DT64U depending on value etc. Let us know how you get on.
If you need a new clock/timer they are around Ā£80 from espares.
The hob is normally totally independent of the oven. What is actually working or not working on the oven? i.e. does the grill still work, is the clock OK and can you set it, or is everything totally dead?
I've an EW 71 with exactly the same problem! Thought it was the element but then noticed that there were two elements to the top oven - so very unlikely that both would go at once.
Tested to see if the switch was the guilty party by turning it on using the upper oven switch and indeed both elements heated!
If yours is doing the same then it's the switch....
... So how does one replace the switch?
Hi it could be the element on the grill it maybe burning out, what slows the grill to get hot quicker. best to turn of the mains or by the main switch. and get a toorch to check around the element or use a continental reader check if it is receving 240volts
problem with hob is probably water ingress in area of ignition unit - will probably cure itself
oven is a completely separate unit from hob. problem with it is that you have to re-set the clock - you have it on automatic. after power outage, oven clock always has to be reset
hob is working, but grill/top oven and main oven not working and display not working
