Auto print of comm journal

Did you try updating the firmware on the machine? Ensure you follow the operators manual.

at the fax parameter ( F7-04) you may look for COMM JOURNAL.
inside COMM JOURNAL, you may choose what will it print. is it always, during error sending, or never print.

that's it :)

Press Function, enter 74 from keypad and hit the middle SET button in circle.
FAX PARAMETER should appear.
Enter number 012 from the keypad, hit SET
The value should be 2 for printing a journal always.
If it's not (default is 3 - only when unsuccessful), then enter 2, hit SET
Press Function again to go out of the menu.
That's it :)

Receiving fax never picked.

You cannot retrieve a sent fax. Sorry.

The journal is your only record.

sounds like your firmware might be shot and it needs to be reinstalled, if your in canada i can recomend a tech

Your only option is to have it print out automatically after every 32 transactions, print out after every transaction, or print out only when there was an error with the transmission.

That parameter is Comm Journal and you can get to it by going to Function 7, option 4. That should give you a fax parameter table. You want options 12 and 13. Set 13 to "1" if you want it to print out every 32 transactions. Set that to "2" if you don't.
Set 12 to 1 for Comm Journals Off, 2 for Always, and 3 for Incomplete Only (errors).

I could not find to the manual for your particular model, however the following should be close enough. Although you have set the Comm Journal to "On" you have to set the paramater to "Always" Download the manual at: http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/UF585.PDF Look at page 131.
