HI, I just purchased a Canon LiDE 110 scanner. After installing the software I did a test scan. The scanner scanned the image then a window popped up that says Canon MP Navigator EX has stopped working,...

1. Open up Image Capture
2. Go to Preferences and click the option under "Scanner" that says "When Image Capture is launched, open scanner window"
3. Then in the Scanner window, click on the "Options..." button
4. Then click on "Buttons"
5. Make sure "CanoScan Toolbox 5.0" is specified for "Application to launch when scanner button is pressed" I did all this and what (incorrectly was always happening when I pressed any button on the scanner was that Image Capture started up (along with the Scanner window), and that was it. What was supposed to happen was CanoScan Toolbox was supposed to launch and initiate the action associated with the button. Here's how I fixed it: 1. Followed the instructions in the 1/2/2008 posting here, (I think he means Jan 9th Canon install tips, which several other Canon users found useful.-Mike) uninstalling both the driver and toolbox (including any of their pref files I could find, emptying trash, and restarting as specified) and then reinstalled the toolbox first then the driver. 2. At first I didn't do the "Save" step (open toolbox, and then click the "Save" icon) and the behavior of the buttons was unchanged (and incorrect). 3. Then I did the "Save" step, but only clicked on "Apply" on the dialog box that then pops up. The behavior was still unchanged (and correct). 4. then I did the "save" step again, but this time followed it through until the end, clicking on the "Save" button in the dialog box and letting it save the scanned image in a file. This time, the buttons worked as they are supposed to!!! Hitting any of the buttons launched Toolbox and performed the correct actions associated with the buttons. In fact, it worked better than the Canon tech support people told me it would work. They told me that only the 3 right-most buttons work with a Mac and the 4 left-most buttons would only work with Windows. I've found that all the buttons work. However, Toolbox doesn't seem to reflect the mappings of the 4 right-most buttons in its user interface (and doesn't let you change the mappings, like you can for the 3 right-most buttons). Anyways, in summary, the key for me was doing the "Save" step, but doing it completely (by letting it save a file). I don't think this was clear from the other comments. Hopefully this info will help someone else.

I bought the Canon Canoscan N1240u flatbed scanner. I downloaded the drivers and plugged in the cord that came with it but it doesn't do anything.

Just to be sure, did you install the driver in addition to downloading it? Full software or basic driver. The software must be installed before connecting the data cable. What OS are you using? (if you have Vista 64-bit, it is not compatible) If you didn't install the software, uninstall the OS driver and disconnect the data cable before attempting to install the Canon software. Otherwise see the notes for scanning with other software.

First are you trying to use the scanner buttons? These will only work if the full software is installed. For the buttons to work, you have to set up the scanner button destinations in the Canon software first. Also a monitoring program must be running for the button presses to work.

So try scanning from the computer first. If you still get an error, try a new data cable. If you are using a USB hub, try a direct connection. Make sure your USB ports work with a known working device. You can also check if the ports are disabled for security (in the Device Manager for Windows) or power savings (an advanced setting from the Screen Saver).

Once you have scanned successfully from the computer, go to the Settings section of the Toolbox to set the default destinations for the scan buttons.

If you only installed the basic driver, you can scan with Paint (XP or Vista), File > Import from Camera or Scanner > New Scan. Vista also has Windows Fax and Scan (New Scan) and Photo Gallery to acquire scans. I don't know the Mac software. Third-party software will also work if installed.

I hope this helps.

I have Canon MX 310. It prints, sends fax and copies with no problem at all. But it does not scan. I push the scan button and it then shows a screen that is black or color scan. It then changes to...

Hi
I think you will need to run the cd installer again to install the scanner driver on your printer.

You can check if the driver of the scanner was successfully installed once you view on the Scanners & Cameras inside the Control Panel and see the image of your printer scanner. It means it is connected and ready to be used. If you can not see the icon of the printer scanner there, then, it could not be installed or the printer is attached to other pc in the network.

Remember to use the printer as scanner, it should be attached locally to the pc you are using. Pressing the Scan button in the printer will save the scanned documents in the computer as pdf files.
In order to save the documents as jpeg files, you must need to use the scan option on the Scanners & Cameras inside the Control Panel.

Hope it helps. Just post back if you still have questions.

When i scan the images are black and white not color

Reset the device when it is not functioning properly. If the device is not functioning properly or to clear memory, reset it.
  1. On the operator panel, press and hold the <ON/OFF> button for one second. (The display will go blank.)
Note: It may be necessary to unplug the power cord if pressing the ON/OFF button does not shut off the printer.
  2. Wait approximately ten seconds and then press the <ON/OFF> button again.
  3. Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting another job request.

Selecting a Response to Commands from the Operation Panel
You can specify a response resulting from pressing the <Color Start> or <Black Start> button on the machine. Setting the response with MP Navigator allows you to scan documents easily.
Important:
With network connection, only MP Navigator can be launched. Configure the settings accordingly.
With USB connection, with Windows XP, the program selection dialog box will be displayed the first time you press the <Color Start> or <Black Start> button on the machine, as shown below. Select 'MP Navigator', select the 'Always use this program for this action' checkbox, and then click 'OK'. By specifying this setting, selecting any scan mode launches MP Navigator, and the selected action will be performed.

3. Right-click the scanner icon for the machine, then click 'Properties'.

4. On the 'Events' tab, in 'Actions', specify the setting to launch MP Navigator. Specify 'MP Navigator Ver2.1' for 'Select an event' and for all events. (Windows 98/Windows 2000: Select an event in 'Scanner events' and specify 'MP Navigator Ver2.1' for 'Send to this application'.) If the settings are already configured to launch MP Navigator, click 'Cancel' to exit.

Setting actions for the <Color Start> and <Black Start> buttons with MP Navigator

Canon Pixma MP 470 Not Scannin

I have the printer. You need to scan through your image software on your desktop. The button on the scanner does not function.

With your image software, there should be an "Import from Camera" and "Import from Scanner." Pick the latter, and it will prompt you through the process.

Took quite awhile to figure that out.
