DRC 8335 Playing Back VCR Recordings in a Fast Forward State

When I put in a VCR tape that has a recording on it,it plays it back seemingly in Chipmunk voiced,sped-up fashion. Why is this happening, and how can this problem be solved?
The only time it does NOT do that is if the VCR recording was made on the DRC8335,and even then the audio still has a hiss in it.
Keep in mind, the tapes play back just fine on lesser quality units (Insignia) with no problems whatsoever. So why is it,that I pay 200+ for this better brand, and I have these odd problems right off the bat?
I have ran a cleaning tape through the VCR...still,the problem remains.
Another thing to keep in mind is that these VCR tapes....are also of the RCA brand.
How do I fix this problem? Or,can it even be fixed?

I have the same problem with the same model. It is brand new and totally frustrating. VHS material recorded from a cheaper Magnavox will only play back on the RCA with serious tracking problems ie. Alvin and the chipmunks and Noise. When I called the toll free nr. on the tab located on the top of the machine of course I was put on hold and a recording that stated that if you have the model DRC8335 please call this other toll free nr.. I called this nr and was on hold for over 20 min and when I got a human to talk to, he advised me to press two buttons at the same time to take it back to factory settings and give it another try. I gave it another try and it did the same thing. Back to Walmart it goes. Thank God you can return it directly to Walmart within 90 days..............Good ridance

not only do i have the same problem but also when playing a vhs tape it also skips and then it starts the chipmunk sound. When it does that i eject the tape to make sure that the vcr is not eating the tape. If you look at the tape it looks like the vcr ate 1/4 of the tape width. Not only that but it also skips ahead on days. this unit sucks

I was having the same problem with my unit. Everything works fine, except when it came to playing (Or copying to DVD) several tapes i have.
I recorded all these on the SLP Mode. and played them in this unit.
They drove me nuts, with all this jerking, and wierd noise. I could'nt even hear 1 movie!!
So, I got to playing around with it, and this menu came up, which features a box titled "Recording Manager" Click on it, and there will be a box that apparently was set at the factory. It is the set SPEEDs (Or Recording Qality) for tapes. (There's one for the DVDs too.) Click on it, and SLP will come up. Press "OK" and it will be reset.
Why this is not mentioned in the book, I Have No idea. I think RCA thinks we're mind readers.
Hope this Helps, JON D.

I bought mine yesterday and am having the same issues. No solution listed in the user manual to fix this and I have a rather extensive VHS tape library that I was hoping to move to DVD using this unit. Unable to watch any VHS tapes taped on my Panasonic VCR and it seems as if the tape is slipping. Tracking buttons don't fix anything. I found a blank spot at the end of the tape and taped something and it comes out fine. Could this have something to do with it being a 6 head VCR? Tapes are in SLP mode.

I have a Panasonic omnimovie Pv-610 and only one of my vhs tapes plays in fast forward mode, how can I fix?

If you mean just the one and the rest then it was probably recorded in Extended Play mode and nothing can be done.
Otherwise please explain your issues in more detail.

Tape is playing back in fast forward only

Hello,

It is possible the tape loaded on the wrong side of the drive. If you romove the tape, look for slack and tighten up, try it again or another tape. Otherwise it is likely that a spring for the pressure roller is off or broken. This is not easially repairable.

I have a refurbished DRC 8335. When I play my VHS tapes I get static, the tape jumps, and fast forwards. How do i fix it.

VCR's have actually become cheaper to replace than to repair now.The place I used to work at will not even repair them anymore.

I purchased a RCA DRC-8335 DVD/VCR RECORDER COMBO

For anyone who has an RCA DRC 8335 with dvd Recorder, here is a suggestion.
If your tapes have been recorded in SLP Mode, om another player, I can tell you they will NOT play on this thing!!
So, merely take another VCR, and a blank tape, Place the blank tape into the RCA DRC 8335 VCR side, and then, go to its Set-Up Menu, and go to OUTPUT. On the "ACTION BAR"Change the the RCA's output to "FRONT" and then, play the VCRr you stuck on top of the RCA!!
When the inage on the "Source tape is shown,
Record onto the RCA, in SLP Mode, Now, it will play, just fine.
Hope this helps. Jon (Found BY Accident!!)

Camera plays in fast forward-like speed

Though I don't know the details of your camera and the tape you are playing, one explanation could be that the tape was recorded in "extended play" EP rather than "standard play" SP. Some VCRs and some cameras are incapable of playing back in EP, a mode where the tape moves at half speed so you can record more on the same tape. The result is that the tape playing back at regular speed appears twice as fast and fast forward will be even faster.

Unfortunately, unless your machine can be manually set to play back in EP (usually it is automatic) the solution is to play it back in a machine that can handle EP.

My VCR tapes skip or only play in fast forward

If you are recording the tapes in a slow speed, then I would suspect that the tracking pulse is not being recorded properly. Since this is a new VCR, return it for an exchange. One of the recording heads is bad.

I have a Sony SLV-EZ717

It sounds like the taped program was recorded on a different speed. The other VCR that you are playing the taped program may not have the speed needed to play it correctly.
Next time when you record a program try to make sure you use a speed that will be compatible on both VCRs.
For example a tape that last 120 minutes, using the different speeds will give the following recording times.
SP means "Standard Play" >>>> 2 hours
LP means " Long Play" >>>>> 4 hours
ELP means " Extra Long Play" 8 hours

Older VCRs have all the 3 speeds but newer ones only have SP and ELP.
Hope this helps.
