Question about Frigidaire FMV156DC Microwave Oven

Microwave does not work unti, door slightly

Microwave does not work until door slightly raised. Do I need to do anything special to replace safety switches or test them? Is there a high capacity capacitor connected directly to switches that needs to be grounded first or can i just disconnect and remove switches to test with ohmmeter or somesuch?

    The switchs do not need adjustment as I have adjusted them already physically where they are held per the ones supposed to be closed and the ones supposed to be open and it is obvious that it is a micro safety switch issue not door adjustment which by the way is not possible on this unit, plastic hinge bushings are good, no hinges bent etc. However the panel holding the switches is adjustable and I have done that.. My real question is do I need to short out the capacitor which on this built in unit is not easily accessible without removing the unit or is the interlock switch powered o the capacitor, does the capacitor bleed down when unplugged, can one leave the power on and unplug the unit to bleed down the capacitor while holding the door up for example?
    Other folks on this posting familiar with this unit have said they just replaced the interlock switch them selves.
    I would like someone to reply specifically familiar with this model to reply not general dire warnings about repairing microwaves. I don't have the money to pay a appliance repairman and except for the accessibility to the capacitor can easily do this on my own. repair people have quoted 80 service charge, 25 per 15 minutes additional, cost of the parts. About 175 bucks is ther estimate to replace a 20 dollar switch. Please help Thanks

This may not be the switch its self but its physical position in relation to the door acuator. either the switch needs adjustment or the door actuator or door itself. recommend certifed engineer advise on this problem.

warning: mircowave is a high energy, if doors are not seated correcly then energy may leak past door shielding and cause injury.

Our kitchenaid model KBMC 147HSSO nicrowave stop cooking and there is a slight burning smell. Its a 2002 model. I would like to repair it myself if possible.

Check the door interlock switches first then the high voltage diode with either an AVO model 8 or moving coil meter on high resistance range for short circuit, (DVM's won't show the fault!), the capacitor can fail and go short circuit, the feed fuse on the primary of the high voltage transformer and then finally, the magnetron is best checked by substitution.

If your microwave is labelled with 900 or 1000Watts. That is about right.
If the temperature is less then the magnetron is not working properly and may need replacing.

No heat


The most likely causes are defective a door switch (or switch mount), a bad connection in the high voltage section, or on the controller.
