Question about Lite On LH-20A1H DVD RW Dual Layer Burner

2 Answers

Won't reognize about half of my DVD Rs

DVD Burner won't recognize disks that I have burned with other units.
There's nothing wrong with the disks - they are clean, unscratched DVD +R, single layer 8x and 16x Data Disks, and they are readable with every DVD ROM I've got ( including some pretty old ones - 1998).

The unit functions perfectly in all other ways, but it just won't recognize about half of my recordings.
[I get the "Please Insert Disk" Message]

After I realized this, and verified that my disks could in fact be read with just about any old DVD ROM, I exchanged the unit for another where I purchased it, only to find that I had the same problem with the replacement unit.
I tried upgrading the firmware by downloading the firmware upgrade entitled: "Match More Media" [the only firmware available for this unit].
It downloads as a Zip file named: "DR20LL06", and after unzipping, it's called "LL06.exe". When executed, I get an error message informing me that:
"No matched drive detected!
This utility is only for LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1H drive.
Detected drives: 1-0-1-0 D:LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1H LL0A"

Cute, eh?

LITE-ON support division seems to be virtually non-existant, as well.
Any suggestions?

If you're going to post a solution, i would appreciate it if you'd at least know a little something about the device in question: READ THE SPEC'S ON THIS EQUIPMENT.. IT'S BRAND NEW AND FULLY COMPLAINT WITH DVD+R [or so they claim]...ALL OF MY DATA DVDs ARE DVD+R...WHY DOES IT READ ONLY HALF OF THEM, WHILE ANY OLD P.O.S. DVD ROM CAN READ THEM WITHOUT PROBLEM??

IT NOT ONLY DOESN'T READ THEM, IT DOESN'T EVEN SEE THE DISK!!!! [in other words, it thinks there's no disk in the tray].

I have problems with this drive recognizing -Rs that other drives will read just fine.

Any valuable solution to this problem? For the solution doesn't offer anything at all. Have the same problem too what am i suppose to do when it wouldn't even recognise that there's a disk!

    Well, thanks for trying, freetek.

Liteon's support site has proved to be completely worthless in regards to this problem.

I did send them an email concerning this, and they suggested that I ship the unit to them with all the original packing and receipts (at my own expense).

Since the price of this unit was extremely cheap, and I have now seen that ALL of these units suffer from the same problem, I have decided to not do business with Lite-on, period.

As for my "Inappropriate" rating for "dna_killer", well, if he had read and understood my problem, I can't see how his "solution" could be deemed anything but "inappropriate".

This is (was) a brand-new unit that boasted compatibility with all of the disk styles currently used (both DVD+R and DVD-R, as well as +&- RW, and DVD RAM)

It should NOT have problems reading DVD+R disks.

In addition, my problem, as I wrote before, is that the unit won't read my EXTISTING disks, which I have a vast collection of.

Switching to DVD-R disks can in no way help this unit read my existing collection of DVD+R disks.

I find this type of quick answer that has no relevance to my problem about as "off-topic" and "inappropriate" as they get.

It's become obvious to me that some users of this site are using "shotgun" techniques and answering problems that they neither understand, nor have appropriate solutions to in an attempt to get their rankings up.

I have been in the electronics and computer field for more than 35 years now, and unfortunately, I'm finding very little use for FixYa's solutions.

While I can't promise you'll find help there, Lite-On does have a support site:
BTW, the rating 'Inappropriate' that you gave to dna_killer was itself inappropriate. He may not have cured your current problem but wanted to pass on his own experience with stubborn DVD problems.
Please reserve your use of that rating for responses that clearly are off-topic or just plain stupid.

Wont recognize burned disk

Is the burned disk recognized in some other computer?

Is any "official" (purchased music CD, or purchased DVD video, or purchased Microsoft software) disk recognized when inserted into the device?

If you burn a disk on your computer, can your computer then read that burned disk?

CD burner won' finlize process. Will initialize the burn, write the songs, but when it is finishing, it cancels process and spits out the disk. Please help!

hi there,

it sounds to me as though you are suffering from Buffer underrun. I would like to suggest that you attempt burning at a slower speed, maybe 16x or even 12x.

Kindest regards,

Unable to burn pictures to DVD-R disc 16x 4.7GB . When previously able to burn pictures to 720MB CD.

You must use a DVD-R/W burner. if it is not specified as DVD-R/W then it won't burn DVD-Rs Also be aware, there are DVD-R and DVD+R disks and they won't work in the opposite burner. Most modern burners are DVD+/-R and will burn either type.

DVD burner does not burn

Well Greg... if the unit is noisy... you have a hardware problem or the disc you are using is not too well. First thing you should know is that Pioneer does not support all types of CDs/DVDs... try using Imation, Verbatim... in that order. If it still happening and the noise continues your unit is not good. Normal noises are very low and only when the unit is going speed up, speed down...

If the recorder is new, take it t garantee imediately and ask your seller to try is in front of you... Stay in touch if this do not help you and give me more info. Its very hard to know what is happening just with you said. OH! one more thing: USE NERO and do not record faster than 12 or 16 X its not recommendable.

LaCie DVD Burner Not Doing Much of Anything

You should check for corruption of your CD/DVD burning software from whereever you got it. Sometimes some burning software isn't good enough to work adequately. I'd test some new burning software to see if that is the problem, if upbrading your burning software doesn;t do the trick. You can downlowad free trials of Roxio, NTI, and other good burners to test this hypothesis. And, of course, try calling LaCie support.
