I have a 42" ILO lcd the screen went dead the other night someone told me that there is a light behind the screen,that is how you see it,can you replace the light or is this false
More likely the backlight inverter board has gone out, or power supply for the inverter board went out, those are the two places to look. Check the power supply first for burnt parts, bad capacitors. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague

Good luck because my 42" went dead 2 months ago and the TV repair place said that since Walmart has discontinued the Ilo line, there is no way of getting the parts to replace it...

Ur tv the LCD inverter board it dead.This board it help to get a backlight to ur LCD screen panel go through the Tuner board to produre a picture.Replaced this LCD inverter board u will get ur picture back.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish LCD inverter board for the replacement.It a long board in shape.
sounds like an ic chip went out possibly a what is called a mosfet but can't be sure unless I saw it could always be a blown capacitor as well but not likely. I have a 42in philips lcd and it did the same thing I knew it was the power supply but when I looked at it there was no obvious problem after blowing a few fuses to isolate the problem by taking out all the ics and then putting them in one by one to see when the fuse blows i came to the conclusion that on ic the mosfet would blow the fuse i orderded the part online for like $7 including shipping replaced it and now everything is working like a charm. I live in oregon if for some reason you are as well I could always take a look at it for you.

I AM JESSICA PORRAS. I PURCHASED AN ILO PLASMA 42" T.V. FROM WALMART IN 2006. THE T.V. LASTED 1 YEAR AND POPPED A FUSE. THE SCREEN WENT BLACK, BUT VOICE IS STILL COMING THROUGH. I DID HAVE WARRANTY AND MY MONEY WAS RETURNED. I HAVE A QUESTION AS FAR AS THE BRAND 'ILO' GOES. CAN THE PARTS BE CROSSED WITH ANOTHER BRAND? SINCE THE FUSE HAS POPPED, WE HAVE REPLACED THE FUSE 3 TIMES, AND IT KEEPS POPPING THE FUSE. THE LAST 2 FUSES HAS BEEN A CERAMIC FUSE AND IT WILL BURN THEM. my 42" ilo plasma started going black on the outside to middle, now its totally black and no sound the power indicated lites for a min then the tv shuts off
