SOURCE: DSC-F717 "Memory Stick Error"
I had the same problem and fixed it by formating my memory stick on the camera that had the problem. It still didnt work but then I took the memory stick to another sony camera and formated it on that camera then placed it back in the camera that didnt work and it worked. Dont know why or if it will keep working but i dont get the "no memory" anymore.

If you really have a F707, it won't work with anything over 128MB according to this chart.

SOURCE: Memory Stick error
Hello!
Following types of memory sticks are compatible with the Camera model DSC-V1:
Memory stick: 32/64/128 MB
Memory stick Pro: 256 MB/512 MB/1 GB/2 GB.
Mark 2 Memory stick Pro: 1/2 GB.
However, in order to use Memory Stick Duo or MagicGate Memory Stick Duo media with the Camera, a dedicated adapter (MSAC-M2) must be attached.
Follow the steps given below to troubleshoot the Camera that is not recognizing any compatible memory sticks:
http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C186797
Furthermore, you may try resetting the Camera to the original factory settings by pressing and holding the Reset button for 30 seconds.
If the issue persists even after performing all the above mentioned steps then the Camera is required to be diagnosed and serviced.

SOURCE: have a DSC-S930 camera inserted my memory stick
Hello Mate,
you may double check how you inserted the memory stick, it may be in wrong position.
other than that, you can insert this memory stick into your computer and see if you can open it from there. and you can also format it from your computer and then test it again with your camera.
Best Regards,
