Problem linking my wireless laptop into newly installed network

Hi.
i have just installed a new netgear dg834gt router with connection to my desktop with windows vista. Have networked to an old compaq laptop (windows xp) using wireless usb adapter.
However, my other laptop (new with windows vista) will not connect to network (although it did connect with previous router - only installed last month but subsequently removed due to a fault). Any suggestions please?

Hi I have installed a netgear wireless usb adapter wg111v3 onto a PC (on another PC i have a netgear DG834GT router). After installing the adapter the "signal strength" is EXCELLENT and the "status" is...

You might not be getting a correct ip from your wireless router.

first, try to power down the computer and your netgear router for about a minute or two. turn the router on first. once the lights are stable on the router, boot up your computer. if your still not able to access the internet. try this

go to start > control panel > network and internet > network connections or network and sharing center > right click on wireless network connection and go to properties > highlight "internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" > left click on properties, the wireless network connnection properties will then be opened.
make sure that the radio buttons are on "obtain an ip address automaticaly" & "obtain DNS server address automaticaly".

How do I disable my DG834GT router firewall?

The router firewall only blocks connections coming from the internet.

Basically it only lets an outside IP connect to your network if you establish the connectoin FIRST.

The most common cause of not being able to see another PC on the LAN is not having the same workgroup name.

Go to Start > My Computer , right click > Properties > Computer name. Make sure all PCs have the same workgroup name.

Cant connect to cable

Hi Snuggles,

Make sure your networking permissons are setup properly, on the Vista. Since it varies with what version Vista you have, try this link.
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/default.mspx

Great help site for Vista. Click on the Network tab, follow the info to setup your networking, and if you are still having issues, got to the troubleshooting. Please make sure you doing your setup with a cable, too, not over the wireless.

Good luck

Netgear dg834gt

I experienced a similar problem with a Vista laptop a few weeks ago. There were no apparent problems, so I uninstalled the wireless network adapter from the Windows "device manager" and then let it automatically reinstall the wireless adapter when it rebooted. The local wireless network appeared about 5 minutes after the reboot and has been working ever since. Hope this idea helps!

Lost network password which I need to sign on an ipod touch using a netgear dg834gt

Key 1 should work in most cases. If you have additional keys listed, try them also.
If none work, turn off encryption and connect your new device, then create a new password.
