I have a built-in stove/microwave model JMC7000ADB. When I turn the microwave on, I get a loud buzzing sound in addition to the normal microwave sound. Sounds like a motor starter not starting...or something like that. Most likely problem?

There's no heat, but it buzzes loudly When the microwave won't heat, but you hear a loud buzz, you usually have a defective power diode, high-voltage capacitor, or magnetron. I recommend that you consult with a qualified appliance repair technician for help in determining the problem and deciding what to do about it.

When your microwave oven won't cook your food, and, you hear a loud buzzing sound, it’s normally caused by a faulty (a) diode (b) high-voltage capacitor (b) magnetron.
The diode would be the most likely culprit of the three components. It’s also by far the cheapest!

The loud buzzing you hear is the sound of the magnatron tube.That is what emits the microwave radiation and buzzing should be normal. The mag tube may be nearing its end at witch time you will hear no buzzing and hence no heating of foods. Replacement can be costly depending on the model so most people just opt for a new one. power spikes are very damaging to a microwaves internal parts, it sounds like your transformer and/or magnetron are blown. if the unit is out of warranty I would recommend calling a repairman or getting a new microwave (the transformer & magnetron are expensive and dangerous to work on) also get a small single plug surge protector for the new one.

Have you tried putting a cup of water in it and cooking on a low power level? If it buzzes only when it is on the cook cycle, that would narrow it down. More detals might help us help you, including the model number.
