I have been using Fantom 1TB External HDD for sometime now without any problem. But all of a sudden from today, My system is not recognizing the drive volume. I get the USB icon in the status bar and the system is recognizing the device as "FANTOM USB Device", but the volumes does not appear in windows explorer. I have checked the Disk management, it says there is an uninitialised disk. When I tried to initialize, it says "Couldnt find the requested sector". I have even tried removing the drivers. But its of no use. Please help me resolve the issue.Any ideas?
From your description you seem to have a problem with the boot record on the external hard disk. There are tools that can sometimes recover such problems. I read about it in an article about external hard disk troubleshooting. No personal experience with such tools though.
Have you try it with another system? if no try it and if it continues then try scanning it with antivirus program installed in your system. if all this no success then get and another okay.

Hi Jules, I tried your suggestion. I installed Acronis Disk Directory suite. Though I am able to see the Hard disk volume as "Uninitialized Disk" in Window's Disk Management console, Acronis is not detecting this disk at all. Also, since I am residing in India, It might be difficult for me to replace the drive. So, I would like to exhaust all options before I resort to replacing the disk drive. Can you please let me know what further course of action I could follow?
