You could also use vista boot pro to delete it. If you dont like messing with the system files on your computer.

Can,t get printer to work need to configure and get driver to work

Computer off, Photosmart C4580 OFF, and unplugged from power. Disconnect the USB cable from it to the computer.

Turn the computer on.
Remove all associated HP software for the Photosmart.

Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.
When the list populates remove all HP software for the Photosmart.
When finished close all windows, go back to your desktop screen.

Restart your computer.

HP Support > HP Photosmart C4580 > Main support page,

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=3418707&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us

Click on the heading - Software and Driver Downloads - in the list.
(Right side)

Select your Operating System. Click on the blue down arrow, to the right of the box with Select in it.

Click on the Operating System you are using.
(If you have Windows XP Home or Pro, click on Windows XP.
Unless you have Windows XP Pro that states it's 64-bit )

I'm going to use Win XP as an example, because the O/S you are using wasn't mentioned.

After you click on your O/S, go to the right, and click on Next in the blue rectangle.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=3418707

Using Windows XP for an example I would click on the + sign,
to the left of, Driver - Product Installation Software (2)

The drop down list shows;

A) HP Photosmart Basic Drivers
56.03 MegaBytes in size. (56.03MB)

B) HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers
149.41MB in size.

I recommend downloading B)
Get the full package.

Click right on the blue heading -
HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers

Scrolling down to the heading - Details and Specifications, and further down to the sub-heading - Compatibility, we see this software is compatible with XP and Vista.

Shows it to be compatible with Windows Vista, and both versions 32-bit, and 64-bit.

Only shows it to be compatible with Windows XP in a 32-bit version.

If it is good for a Vista 64-bit O/S, I'm going to go out on a limb, and state it will work with Windows XP Pro 64-bit.

To download the file click on the blue file name -

PS_AIO_04_C4500_USW_Full_Win_enu_120_210_NB.exe

( [1/1, 149.41m]
This means Page 1 of 1, and the size is 149.41 MegaBytes )

After you click a small window will come up.
Opening - and the file name.

Click on - Save File.

After you click another small window will come up. This time on the left side.
In the heading of this window, tells you where the file will download to.

It may have Desktop, or My Documents, or Downloads, in the wording.

[ Desktop, or Documents, or Downloads, for Vista and Win 7 ]

Write this down, and the file name. (File name; so you can find it later)

Desktop: The file will be on your desktop screen.

My Documents: Click on Start, then on My Documents.

[ Windows logo button, then Documents, for Vista and Win 7 ]

Downloads:
Click on Start, then My Documents. DOUBLE-click on Downloads.

[ Windows logo button, then on Documents. DOUBLE-click on Downloads, for Vista and Win 7 ]

When you see the file name DOUBLE-click right on it.
Follow the easy instructions.
(Next, Next, and Finish)

When finished close all windows, go back to your desktop screen.
Restart your computer.

Plug the USB cable of the Photosmart back into the Advent laptop.
Turn the Photosmart on.

After a few seconds, (After all of your Start-Up menu items are loaded, really), a pop-up should come up out of your system tray;

"Found new hardware"

,and perhaps another one,
"Found HP Photosmart C4580"

Post additional questions, or to have me clarify anything I have stated, in a Comment.

Regards,
joecoolvette

[ Why remove the software, then reinstall?

1) I don't think going to Add or Remove Programs, and clicking on - Repair, for the HP Photosmart software, will do any good.

I think there are too many files corrupted, and the software needs to be reinstalled in full.

2) You may get a driver conflict, with having part of the old HP software still there, and then reinstalling new software.

(Probability is pretty low, but why take chances, or have to do it all over again? )

I have installed Win 7 ultimate and after i have installed win xp sp3 in different drive. But now at booting the computer dosent show the operating system choice but instead win xp starts as the default...

When installing different versions of Windows, you must start with the oldest system first.

1. Booting from XP disc, create 2 partitions before installing and install XP to one of them.
2. After XP is complete, install W7 to second partition and after it is complete you will be given the OS System Boot choice at Start Up.

Laptop shows only 4gb ram & 300 gb hdd

This is the limitation of a 32 bit (x86) Operating System. A 32 bit OS can detect upto 3GB RAM only.

You may either try installing the x64 Bit of XP Operating System or Vista Service Pack 1 or 2 for 32 bit Vista Operation System to resolve the issue.

After installing the SP 1 or 2 of the Vista OS in the Computer, the OS will detect 4GB RAM.
