Sidewinder Won't Enable

For Windows XP , Vista and windows 7 it dont need drivers windows has them built in.

buy a joystick that will work with win7, because the MS Sidewinder has no driver, and MS has no vested interest in developing one...

O-the sweet feel of a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback lets see if I can be of some help. there could be any number of things going on but I'm going to give this a try. have you checked the settings in Flight Simulator 2004 seems to me that I remember a check box that said disable force feedback make sure that is unchecked. also in the settings for your controller there is a box that says enable force feedback make sure that is checked. then make sure if you are using a firewall like zone alarm you are in gaming mode because this used to give me major headaches with my system to the point I had to detach from the internet and shut down my firewall to play my games. if this doesn't work you may have to reinstall the drivers for the sidewinder this is the last easy option and it should repair any broke links and reset itself into your system. Just get yourself a new soundcard with a gameport on board. Disable your MoBO soundcard if you have one and instal the new one. Creative is probably the safest option. Update the drivers and off you go. Don't forget to add the joystick, the drivers are supplied in XP.

THis device appears quite old, try HERE for the required program download but be aware that it appears to be supported for win 95 and win 98.

Contrary to popular belief, there are drivers in XP for the FFP. If you configure everything properly and make sure the gameport on the soundcard is woking with updateds drivers, you should be OK. I also have the original manual to scan and send out if anybody needs it. The best option is to buy an old box, throw a 20 Gb HDD into it and load Windows 98. Easy!
