Hi, i wanted put inside a new map, but i think than it had udgrade the gps with a bad firmware, so now i can't use it. i cannot enter any manipulation because it always stop and switch on again. I think that memory is corrupted. all key without menu are inoperent. sorry for langage i m french and i don' t speak well many thanks for your help; Didier

update firmware and maps from you computer.

Right now your unit will work right out of the box. If you want to register the unit with Garmin, then there should be a card inside, or directions for online registration. As for updates, maps will be updated every year, with firmware updates periodically added. For the first 5 years of owning your gps, I wouldn't recommend paying the map update fee, as they often contain very little new information. They mainly encompass new developments, etc.Lastly, be sure to enjoy your Garmin, its one of the best car gps devices on the market.

I don't think updating the firmware will solve the problem however if you want to try you can update the firmware by connecting your satnav to the computer and downloading webupdater from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27 When you have it set up it will automatically check for the latest version of software for your satnav. I don't think that will solve your problem though. The satnav will only show road names that are on the map.

Before trying to update the software try this solution first. On the satnav press Tools, then Settings, then Map. Under Map Detail press whatever it says and you'll get a list of options. Press Most. This will show the most map details and will show any roadnames that are on the map.

I can help you reset and fix your Garmin Nuvi 265W.

Getting stuck on the flashing Garmin logo, or a message about not finding any maps, are indications that the firmware / system software inside your GPS has been corrupted.

There are three steps to take to get your Nuvi 265W running like new:

1. Back up your Favorites.
2. Perform a Hard Reset.
3. Download and then run Garmin WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

Main menu > Setup > Map
Scroll across the icons to the fifth one (an i inside a blue circle). Press left bottom button on the side of the GPS. Scroll down to Show None, press the enter button, then scroll down again to the maps you want to show and press the enter button again. The new maps should now show on the screen.

Its a firmware problem....you have not mentioned the model number to get accurate replies...anyways it must be MSA2025 most probably. Download the firmware udgrader from here,install it and follow the on screen instructions to restore your player.

You should probably just buy a Garmin.

If you did want to update the maps you need to find the software company that makes the map (usually IntelliNav or Odyssey) and then buy it from them and PRAY it works by loading the new map data directly on your SD card.

From experience, this makes your GPS crash a lot and make sure you back up your SD card before you even attempt this.

i'm sorry BUT I HAVE TO TELL U THAT THERE AREN'T ANY FREE tomtom MAPS and updates unless u buy tomtom with already installed map

but there is a way to crack tomtom map 
but if you're not good with pc's you can't do it
i have done it and i have to tell that is pretty complicated and is better to buy maps then try to do it the bad way

Garmin puts out map updates on a regular basis. You must purchase these. The GPS comes loaded with maps that are current as of the date of production of the unit. It cannot "know" when new roads are paved and new subdivision are created without being "told" via map updates. The unit knows where it is in relation to the maps loaded on it by receiving signals from the GPS satellites in orbit. If things change, the maps must be changed in order for the unit to give you correct directions.
