Padlock icon

Many monitors have an on-screen display lock (the padlock icon) that seems to get stuck.
Various suggestions in the links below - the one that seems to work most often is to hold the monitor's menu button down for 15-20 seconds to get the screen menu, then either try unlocking the OSD (On Screen Display) or do a factory reset on the monitor.

Different monitors have slightly different menus, but if it's a Dell monitor you can find the manual below (under Display):

Have a 16" dell flat screen monitior. The display are very dim,and make for hard viewing. Tried to push buttons on computer but a locked icon flashes up. Tried holding the buttons to unlock but did not...

You need to hold the menu button for 15 seconds until the lock icon changes to unlock. Then you should be able to adjust the brightness of the monitor, assuming that the backlight is working properly. Hope this helps you.

I have a black square on my display that seems to

Stephengibso, Have you tried removing or uninstalling the drivers one by one to determine which one might be the cause!! Can you move the monitor over to a different PC to prove that that the MONITOR is working correctly? 12fixlouie

Flat monitor will not receive image from tablet computer

i assume the monitor works on other machines. having said that,
Look on the tablet pc for a FN (function) button and look on the keyboard for blue icons. One would look like a square. pressing that SHOULD toggle 3 settings: 1 is use tablet display, 2, use monitor display, 3, use both displays. That is how it SHOULD work. You might want to look up the manual for that tablet pc to see exactly how it is done.

How do I adjust my monitor? My home page does not

I'm not sure what operating system you're using nor what you mean by your "home page". If you mean your browser window doesn't fill the whole Windows desktop, what happens when you maximize the window?

If your desktop looks huge with tiny icons (and tiny-looking windows, if you have any open and not maximized) all clustered in the middle of the screen, your display resolution may be set higher than you're accustomed to. In most versions of Windows you can go to Control Panel | Display, see what your current resolution is, and try adjusting it. The higher the numbers, the "bigger" the desktop area (and the smaller the icons and everything else). If you adjust the resolution higher than your monitor can handle, you may lose your display and have to restart the computer in something like Safe mode to get to Control Panel and readjust it. If you adjust the resolution lower (or run in Safe Mode) your icons may not fit on the smaller desktop and may get scrambled. In that case, first straighten out the display resolution, then move your icons back where you want them.

Screen goes dim under different user

could be an issue of his resolution and refresh rate settings are close to being out of range for the monitor. Try lowering these settings to get better performance.
