I have an LG DVD RH2T80 recorder which does not appear to boot up. When you switch it on the message ''Please Wait'' slides across the screen and the machine does not respond to the remote control or any of the buttons

I had the same issue twice (2 diffrent devices) on LG Blue-ray HX-906 - stuck on "please wait" after switching it on. It turned out to be defective mainboard - main BGA chip (the one with black radiator) has some problem with connection to mainboard. Here is how to repair it:

- dismount the mainboard

- take off the radiator from the main chip

- put alluminium foil around the chip to avoid unnecessary heating up of other parts of PCB

- heat up the chip using air hotgun to about 200 celsius for about 5 minutes.

Mount everything in reverse order and enjoy

unplug the hard drive inside and see if it boots. if it does then the hard drive needs fixing or replacing.

Same here, found one answer saying a power surge fried something on the main board. I'm still looking. Cheers

The hard disk in the unit may be full. Try deleting some of the old recorded TV programs you don't need and see if DVD will burn.

1.Switch on unit 2.Press- Setup on the remote 
3.Select the Lock option from the on screen setup menu 
4.Press Lock on the remote unit ( under slide cover) 
5.Press 0 7 times on the remote keypad 
6.A message appears stating the unit is now Code free on the screen 
7.Press Enter on the remote. 
8.Close Setup menu and switch unit off. 
9.Switch on and enjoy Multi-region DVD playing

It'a 7MB file, just copy it and play & you should be ok.

Sounds like the laser head carriage slides or screw drive need oil or the screw drive may have dirt in it that will cause uneven movement or possible jamming of the carriage on the slide.

The carriage and drive screw need to move smoothly. The slides can easly be oiled. The screw however can be difficult to clean. Using paper can make it worse due to the paper fibre getting into the screw as well. You could try a lint free material to clean the screw and then oil it, preferably with a non drying oil.
