I just got a new laptop and I no longer have my softward installation disk for my simpletech 320GB external hard drive. I've gone onto and am having trouble finding the software program. ...

If you have a new laptop, you should not need the install disk to see the drive as the drive is USB 2.0 compliant.

And no, nothing will get erased unless you erase it on purpose.

Plug the drive into you laptop (USB cable).

Plug power into to the external drive.

Turn the drive on.

It may take a minute or so but your laptop should recognize the drive. It will get assigned a drive letter (assuming you are using Windows).

I have a SimpleTech Portable Drive (back-up)

I assume you're using the StorageSync software. Go here to make sure you have the latest version:

Since I don't know what you're clicking, I can only tell you that you need to choose the "Incremental Backup" radio button at the bottom left of the Backup Window, then click the "Backup" button.
