Keys not working

Either the keyboard or the ribbon cable connecting the keyboard to the mainboard is damaged or not fully connected.

The most likely problem is the keyboard is defective. They are not very hard to replace. In most cases you have to remove the button cover above the keyboard and then the screws for the keyboard will be accessible. You can get a new keyboard off the Internet (EBAY or such) or direct from HP.

How do I use the blue colour keys on my compaq presario laptop keyboard

please forgive short answers or bad typing i broke my wrist in an auto accident last night. there should be a a key marked "mode", "fn" or something similar, it will most likely be blue. this key should toggle the blue keys on or off. some computers also require the num lock to be on as well before this works. some computers allow you to set different activation methods through keyboard in control panel. please note most computers require you to have a driver installed for these keys to work. good luck.

Compaq presario v2405us can't boot up

I did not get if the keys are working. If not, check the keyboard ribbon. It might be out of place.
Else, it might be the hdd.

Laptop keys

On a presario the keys are hinged with a small metal hinge at the top that fits into two plastic clips and lets the key sit over the membrane of the keyboard. If the plastic clips have snapped it will involve the fitting of a new keyboard which isnt a user serviceable thing.

If it's out of warranty (HP now own Compaq, so it's them you'll need to talk to, but they will tell you the warranty status from the serial number of the machine) you might consider a rubber "roll up keyboard" along the lines of http://www.iwantoneofthose.com/bendi-light-up-keyboard/index.html - these are rubber folding keyboards that can be transported easily in your laptop bag but are still full size.

Loose key

Is only the cap loose, but you can still operate that key?

On most laptop keyboards, the letters are caps on the keyboard button. They are held in place by small plastic tabs on the keyboard structure. The cap snaps in place and is held by the tabs. If the tabs are broken, the cap stays loose.

Some keyboards use a small slider that moves as you depress the key, which means you can't glue it.

Laptop keyboards are replaceable and can be purchased cheaply on ebay or some repair sites.
