    Hello Jennifer

I have tried to follow your procedure but it doesn't work. I use the first version of the connection from 3 which you discribed, but I would like to have the third connection to see exactly the same on the screen. When I have unchecked even wallpaper disappear. However, minewhile i have changed my wallpaper and right now I can have slide show from my power point on the screen when I have draged my pp icon. But it still is a problem whn I want to use slide show from other program: Windows picture or when I want to have full screen of any movie it jump again to lap top screen; when I make smaller picure I can drag into the big screen.

I am lookin for two possible solutions:

    1) to have exactly the same on the lap top monitor and on the projector screen

    2) to get possibility to streach the picture or to thave slide show in connection type 1 of your discription.

hello i still have a problem with my acer aspire one ZG5 - i can have dual picture: on lap top and on the screen (wallpaper only). The problem is I can not make the same picture on the lap top and on the projector or at least to make full screen inthe first option (dual picturee). I can open my icons and drag them but slide show of pictures or full screen of any movies appears only on the lap top screen. What to do to change that.
Fn + F5 seems doesn't work at all - does not react in any situations.

  • krzysg29 Nov 10, 2009

DO YOU KNOW IF THERE IS A CHANCE TO SWITCH IN THE LAP TOP TO THE VERSION TO SEE EXACTLY THE SAME ON BOTH SCREENS?

tHE PROBLEM OF MAXIMIZING IS THAT SOMETIMES IT APPEARS ONLY IN THE LAP TOP SCREEN. SOME PROGRAMS DOES NOT HAVE ANY POSSIBILITIES TO GO IN PROPOERTIES AND CHANGE THE MONITOR ISSUE

  • krzysg29 Nov 12, 2009

prevoius suggestions did not help me
question is how to get the same notebook and projector screen?

  • krzysg29 Nov 12, 2009

obviously I have tried that at the very begining - but is inactive - it looks like the Fn+ F5 is broken or nootbook does not see the connection of the projector - but that seems imposible beacuse it display on the option with the extended monitir view = (which means you see your monitor and wallpaper on the projector sreen)

Hello, Chris.

I'm not certain if this was already tried, but here goes:

If you look at you keyboard function (F) keys, you'll see a symbol or the words "CRT/LCD". On my laptop, it is F8, but could be different on yours.

When you connect an external screen to your laptop, if the laptop information doesn't show on the external screen, press your Fn key plus that function key with the symbol or words.

Normally, when you press once, twice and three times, you toggle through various options: your laptop screen only, your external screen only and both screens.

Hope this helps.

In addition, if that doesn't work, please let me know where the VGA cable (from the laptop to your external screen / projector) is connected on the projector. Sometimes, a projector has multiple VGA connectors and that could be your problem.

  • Anonymous Nov 12, 2009

Is there more than one VGA port on the projector ? If so, where is the cable connected ?

  • Anonymous Nov 12, 2009

    See if this helps:

Right-click on your Desktop, then select Display. Move over to the last tab
"Monitors," click the box with the number 2 in it, and uncheck the box "Extend
the desktop to this monitor." Click "Apply" to apply your changes.

    OR

Right-click on Desktop then click Properties.
    Go to Settings
    tab.
    Uncheck Extended monitor option.

    Hi, Chris.

I'd suggest testing your projector on another laptop, see the results and let us know. Then, we can narrow down the problem.

Hi,

If you did manage to get a clone view going (both same display) You would not be able to play video on the projector as the machine can only play the video on one screen at a time.

as it is now, in dual view, drag the video to the 2nd display - projector and then press play, don't press play before its moved, move it first and then press play, it should show the picture on the projector and then just maximize it to fullscreen, with the maximize button next to the close and minimize button, if you double tap or select full screen, it might go to the laptop, so make it as big as possible on the projector screen depends on what program you use, I would recommend you get VLC media player, as this program can play full screen on any monitor its dragged to.

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

then as for the slide show, the slide show setting needs to be changed - play slide show on 2nd monitor or "monitor/projector name"

Or then again drag the powerpoint first to the 2nd display then maximize it and then press play slideshow, hopefully it will play on the 2nd, if it doesn't, then you need to go to settings and change on what monitor it plays it.

That is about it.

Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks,
Ekse

Also, the windows slideshow always goes to the main display, the only way to get a picture slideshow to work on the projector, you will have to press the FN+F1 to F.12 key, its one of those, that will swap the display from:

Laptops display only , laptop display + externa, external only,

3 options, you need to get it to the external only that will give you a black screen on the laptop and picture on the projector, that is probably what you should have done in the first place.

Hello and thank you for using Fixya's services.

* Refer to "second monitor" as being the projection screen.

When you set up your dual screen, you have three possible configurations:

1. You can have the desktop with all icons, toolbars, etc. on one monitor and the other screen merely is a companion to the main monitor. This means you would have to click and drag the programs you open to the other side of the monitor.

In your case, this is how it is configured and is generally called an "extended desktop.

I have a problem with displaying power point prese - 04dd462.jpg
2. Another configuration is to disable the main monitor and just view the projector as your main monitor. Most likely, we will want to avoid this one (but if this happens you will understand what happened and why the screen is blacked out on main monitor.)

3. This would be the ideal configuration for dual screens as both the projector and the monitor have the exact same thing showing on them. To set your dual monitors up this ay, follow these instructions.

Open the display (by following instructional link on bottom of this answer or from control panel) and uncheck mark the box that says "extend my windows desktop into this monitor." Hit apply and okay. This will set the montitor and projector to be exactly the same.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Are you using Windows XP, Vista or 7? I can troubleshoot furher with this information.

  • Anonymous Nov 10, 2009

Okay, open the display properties and uncheck mark the box. Hit ok, reboot the computer.

Once the computer starts back up, open the control panel and check mark the box again. Hit ok and reboot.

The laptop seems to be a bit confused but we will try "tricking it."

    Let me know what happens.

you need to right click on the desktop and click properties, when display settings appear, enable the second display and you will then be able to show output on the projector. if you choose mirror displays whatever is shown on your laptop is copied to the projector. if you choose extend the display you would have to drag your power point over to the other screen, same as if you were to move the window out of the way

My dell d630 laptop wont recognize my infocus lp70+ remote control and I can't advance my powerpoint slides with the remote control

Here's what the User's Manual says:

Using the Remote Control

To advance PowerPoint slides with the projector's remote, you

must connect the USB cable on the projector's computer cable to

the computer. See page 8 for more information.

Point the remote control at the projection screen or at the front or

rear of the projector (not at the computer). The range for optimum

operation is about 30 feet. If you point the remote at the

projection screen, the distance to the screen and back to the projector

must be less than or equal to 30 feet. For best results, point

the remote directly at the projector.

If you are displaying presentations in Microsoft® PowerPoint®,

you can use the remote's Previous and Next buttons to navigate

I need to be able to connect my hp pavillion to a projector to display a power point presentation. What is the correct process?

Usually all one has to do is power up the projector, then while the laptop is turned off, plug the projector into the VGA port, boot the laptop, and there it is.
If that doesn't happen for some reason, you'll have to go into display settings and make the projector the primary display.

You could be able to enable presentation mode by pressing the "settings" button on the bootom of your display, next to the power button and the "ctrl" and the rotate button. After you press that, your dell control point manager should pop up and then go to the tablet tab on the left and open it. after that, go to the display tab and you should see an option that allows you to turn your presentation mode on.

Presentation mode is off...

I'm going to guess that you have a wide screen Dell laptop with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a default resolution of 1280X800. The wide screen is great BUT most presentation grade projectors do not have a native (pixel for pixel) 16:10 mode. Instead they still prefer a display input with a 4:3 aspect ratio like your old square CRT or standard definition TV. Why do they prefer a 4:3 input? Mainly because Powerpoint prefers to display a slideshow in a 4:3 mode. Because of this Dell, in their infinite wisdom, created the 'presentation mode' utility in an attempt to automatically convert the VGA output of your laptop from 16:10 to 4:3 on the fly. In my experience this is an annoyance at best and at worst can seriously impact the size and quality of the projected image.

The best thing you can do when you connect to a projector is ignore the presentation mode alert and manually set your laptop's resolution to 1024X768 for an XGA rated projector or 800X600 for an SVGA rated projector. This will cause your desktop to look stretched on your laptop but will give you by far the best projection image.
