If the screen needs to be wired to the dash light switch it will not change unless the lights are on, if the wire is disconnected it is possible to bypass it making the screen stay bright.
although it would seem more likely that the brightness could be adjusted on the unit settings or by a button on the unit itself

Screen does not lighy
If you look very closely, is there an extremely dark picture, or a solid black screen? If it's an extremely dark picture, you just need a new backlight. If it's a black screen, you either have a bad connection (broken, shorted or unplugged cable), or need a new LCD. Let me know, and we'll go from there.

My turn signal won't lit when activate and my brake light also wont also but is illuminate. The Top Brake light do light up when but only when the lights are turned on manual setting if they are on...
possible multifunction switch gone bad for turn signal problem. do headlihgts come on in a dark setting on automatic or not? if they don't come on when it is dark then most likely bad light sensor in top of dash or maybe unplugged if recent dash work has been done.

Screen goes dark
It could be the display power inverter or the illuminator is going out. generally the inverter goes first.

Screen will not illuminate, i can just make out
If you hold a flashlight up to it can you see what is on the screen?
If so then the lcd inverter had gone out.
(That happened to my HP)

The Back-light on your LCD screen is bad, your crystals aren't illuminating, so it is dark.... very dark.

You need a new LCD screen.

Laptop screen goes dark after booting .
your issue with your laptop is a faulty ccfl BackLight Inverter, the display uses the backlight to illuminate the lcd screen, the inverter is used to illuminate the cold cathode light in the back of ther lcd theirs countless places to laern about it on google.
They are cheap to replace google your model with inverter at the end..

They are not too hard to replace

Nintendo DS lite power light comes on but both screens stay dark?
When you boot the Nintendo DS you can change the illumination settings in the main menu.
One the main menu, you will find a sunny symbol in the lower left corner of the screen. Click on that and you should be able to change the level of illumination. If you are also wondering if you can change the brightness during game play, you can't. Games such as Mario 64 DS come with support for brightness change but otherwise you have to do it before game play.
