Sapphire X1550 512m DDR2 AGP graphics card and NEC MultiSync LCD 175VXM+

Hi I've just upgraded my graphics card to the above from a Cirrus Logic Laguna 5464 all seemed to go ok untill it asked me to restart my computer on reopening all my Icons were huge and if I went on line I couldnt see google or whatever as it was off the screen! If I plugged my monitor into the other socket all I got was the screen saver in the middle of a blue screen and no icons at all. I tried to change the display in the display settings but it didnt make any differance. Please help as I've now disabled the new card and I wanted to view video but my old card wont!! I'm running Windows XP home edition and my mother board is ASRock K7VT4A+ I have Hauppauge WinTV, Creative SB Audigy sound card, I hope this is enough info to enable you to help me!

Thank you

For now keep your old video card in the PC. Please upgrade Windows Home Edition through Windows Update. Your system needs to have .Netframwork 2.0 installed for your new video card to work as intended. Do not skip lower versions of .Net framwork as you update. Do not install more than 1 .Net framework at a time & do not skip any. Once windows is updated, download ATI's Catalyst Software Suite at this link.
Save the updated X1600 drivers in a folder on your drive. File size 45.0Mb. Date Dec. 20, 2007.
Now open windows control panel & open Add or Remove programs. Uninstall your current video software for the Cirrus Logic Laguna 5464. Also uninstall the ATI Radeon software.
If while uninstalling the ATI Radeon software you get a error message & the uninstall fails. Download & run this ATI uninstall utility.

Shut down the PC. Install the Radeon X1600Pro video card.
Make sure the card is seated evenly in the AGP slot.
Start up the PC. Install the downloaded X1600 software. Restart the PC after install is complete. Even though you are using a single display you must enter the Catalyst Control Center to setup your display. You will find that you can not just switch between the DVI & VGA without using the Catalyst Control Center software.

Have you got both card installed in the pc just now? Was just wondering as you said you "disabled" it rather than removed it?

If the old pci card is in there and the new agp one is too then that could certainly cause a problem.

Also before installing the new card did you properly uninstall the old cad in device manager?

After uninstalling the old card you need to run a free progam called driver cleaner pro from here

It removes traces of any old drivers that may cause problems with new ones.

    Do you get sound playing?

You will need to install a codec pack to get some dvds to play. This is the one i use and never had any problems :)

Do all your games run ok now?

Old card being left in was causing the problem then :)

Hope that sorts it for you?

Did you install the latest drivers from the AMD (they bought ATI) website?

You can find the latest drivers for Windows XP Home here. After you install the drivers there should be no problem changing your resolution. Regarding the other socket, you must've made it so you extend your desktop onto your "second screen" (ie. the one that connects to the second socket) so you don't see your desktop on that screen but just the extension of your desktop. If you move your mouse all the way to the right you should see it pop up there. You can change it in Display Properties -> Settings -> select screen #2 and deselect the extend desktop onto monitor option.

This could be one of two issues:

    1. The drivers still aren't installed properly, or your previous drivers are interfering. You should right click My Computer, go to Properties, then click on the Hardware tab and click on Device Manager, under Display Adapters you should have your new ATI card. If you have the old card showing up there, right click it and uninstall. If you have any device other than the ATI card showing up there, please post what it is here so I can further assist you. If you didn't already install the drivers (the ATI Catalyst software), you should install it now. You can download it here.

    2. You might be playing a DivX file without having the proper codecs. Are you playing a .avi file? If you are and didn't install the codecs, download this codec pack. Then, try playing again and see if it shows up. If not, what is the extension of the video file you are playing?

Windows 7 do not accept (my Sapphire 4650 Hd Agp ddr 2 1gb graphic card) drivers when I upload drivers .how I will make upload for my computure?

This is Sapphire's link for downloads:
I entered your info and it appears the card #100288L Radeon HD 4650 1GB DDR2 has Windows 7 support. This card requires a 400w or greater power supply and, a 6 pin power hook up. You have to un-install the VGA driver and Catalyst control center before downloading new. You can do so in a "custom" uninstall then, a "custom" install.
You can also try to update your drivers here.

Graphics Card

see if you have an AGP, OCI, PCI_E slot available first.
most G-Force and Nividia cards will have the connections needed. Monitors will run basically on any card.
