Samsung Plasma TV

Hello, I have a 50" Samsung Plasma. In the last couple of weeks, I've noticed millions of blue, red and green dots "raining" all over the picture. If the picture is small (with black strips on the side) the blue, red and green dots do not show up on the black, only on the picture.

This happens with cable, HD channels and DVDs.

The only thing we've changed is our home theater system.

Thank you!

I've noticed in the last 3 months, that my 2 year old Samsung plasma is showing red and green "flecks" that "rain" all over the screen for the first 30 minutes after it turns on. They fade after about 30 minutes and all is well. What can I do about this? Thanks.

I have a samsung S5053 plasma that is 1 1/2 yrs old. I have a million of different color dots all over the screen. The picture still comes up but you cannot see it clearly because of all the dots. I have called samsung and they say they never heard of such a thing...... They also cannot do anything for me because my warrenty is expired.

Mine does the same, mostly green "snow" dots, and usually only for the first 30 minutes or so. It eventually clears up so the picture is "clean" again.

it started a month ago with 2-3 random dots now it covers the screen. i can turn it on and off seveal times and sometimes get a watchable picture, sometimes no. I have taken off the back cover and adjusted the voltage screws, made no difference. the fan/hair dryer solution doesnt make sense as it does it whether the tv is hot or cold

I have had the same problem for 3 weeks now. Millions of blue green and red dots all over the screen. the TV is 2 years old. I have been going back and forth with Smasung and the technicians for 3 weeks now to get this resolved. First they said it was most likely the Power Supply Board, they ordered the part, came out and installed it, and still had the same problem. they then said it was most definitely the Main Logic Board, they again ordered the part, came out and intstalled, and yet again still the same problem. Now they are trying to say that it almost absolutely has to be the Main Board. They will now have to order this part and try once again. It hase been 3 weeks, and still do not have a working TV.

I have a FPT 5084 for about 14 months now and have just recently started noticing the red, green and blue dancing pixels only in gray and dark areas. I have done extensive research on this issue but I haven't seen a direct solution. So I have called Samsung support which sent out a tech but all he did was take down the model and serial number. He said "we will play the swap out the card game".

Now I have done a little more troubleshooting of this problem I am having. It only happens after the TV has been on for about an hr or 2 and I only get the dancing in black and gray areas. I've tried all the picture adjustments (contrast, brightness, etc.). So I believe it is a board heating up. Not 100% on that because if I leave the TV on for more that 5hrs it seems to go away but my picture is not clear (appears somewhat fuzzy not sure how to describe but it's not as clear). I will update when I get done playing the "swap out game".

I have this problem too. I have had a technician over to service it twice already and I picked up on a few things he did to fix it. Here is what I learned. the raining pixels has to do with the timing in the circuit boards. Basically telling them when to turn on and off. I would only recomend this solution if you are technically inclined. Remove the back from your tv on the left upper quadrant you should see a small gray dial with marks that a Philips screw driver would fit it. There are three or four of these on the boards scatter across the tv. Each on corresponds to the colors firing in sequence. Take your Philips and turn it to either extream. You should see a your screen go crazy with whatever color corresponds to the dial. Then ever so slowly turn the dial undtil you don't see any more flickering. Do that with each dial and you should be able to get rid of most of the flickering. on the right side of the there is a panel underneath the support bar with orange adjuster. I don't know what they do but they also help reduce the flickering. A word of caution. If you can use something non metallic to adjust these dials. There is a small metal lip to keep the dial from turning too far. If your screw driver touches it. It will fry the dial and your screen will blink red/yellow or blue. and you will have to buy a new board. Luckily they are only about 30 bucks, but I learned the hard way.

I have been having the exact same problem. TV on for 30 min with terrible static, then all of a sudden it is perfect again. I've also inherited a bit of a humming noise from the tv as well. It was suggested to me in this forum to have a tech come and adjust the v_scan and v_set settings down a few mhZ. No idea what this means, but I assume it's a power setting and the tech will be able to take care of this. I will post my results when i have the tech in.

Actually, i was slightly incorrect in my last post. this is the solution I received:

Try to adjust the Vscan or/and Vs down about 5-10V on the Power Supply board

Try putting a fan on the back of the tv to see if it is getting better. If it does then you probally have a board that is overheating. If that is the case then CAREFULLY !!! remove the back and place where you can turn on and safely access the open back NO TOUCHING STUFF !!! Mabey lay it face down on a glass table or lay it on a table with 25% hanging over the edge to see the screen. Then take a COLD blow dryer and blow it on the boards to find out which one makes it get better. If one does then it will probally be your problem board. Make extremely sure that is the one before removing it by blowing from all angles on the boards around it without air hitting the suposed problem board. Then try a little hot air to see if that starts the problem on that board so you can be sure. Of course check the surrounding and offending board several times to be sure before removing.

SOURCE: Samsung Plasma TV

from the model number you have a 42" set,,the v_set and v_scan voltages need to be set 15vdc lower..this should take care of it,,if not then the plasma panel is bad

When using component cables(red, green, blue )

The series of the cable should go green red blue into the back. if you put the green in the red and the red into the green it give the TV a red base to go off of for the picture so everything is red. The reason the green cable won't is because it transmits a black and white picture which allows it a nice base to add the green and red to.

Red Dots

You can get rid of the red dots by adjusting the V-scan voltage down, it's on the panel sticker inside the unit, you can find the test point on the DC to DC pcb, and the adjustment pot is on the same board, lower it as you watch the screen and only lower it enough to rid the screen of the dots
