My nikon D5000 monitor is dark and i have to look through the viewfinder to see the scene i want to take a picture of. monitor works fine to view taken pictures and in filming mode. why? and how can it be...

The Nikon D5000 must be set in "Live View" mode before you can use the rear monitor to take photos. There is a button that says "LV" to the right of the LCD screen that sets Live View to on or off.

There is no image on the screen at all even when its all set up

Hello,

Is it that the when you power on the lcd monitor, the led power button powers on but no display? if it is, the means the picture board of your lcd monitor is malfunctioning.

It could be that the picture board of your monitor has developed fault.

The best thing for you to do now is to take the monitor to a local repairer within your vicinity or any service center to help with the replacement of the picture board because the fault is not something you can fix yourself, in order not to complicate issues.

Take care.

The Monitor screen doesn't work when I want to take a photo, I can only see picture through eye piece.

If your screen works in playback mode, the screen and flexible circuit boards are intact. To shoot an image using the LCD screen you must first activate the "live view" function in the setup menu, and then press the live view (Lv) button to view your image on the LCD.

Monitor problem.

This may be intentional. Some higher end cameras don't use viewfinders to take pictures, just to review them.
In looking up your camera, it appears that you *can* use the LCD to take pictures.
My guess is that the camera's set up to shut off the LCD when you get the camera close to your eye, to take a picture.  Try taking a picture with the view finder from farther away from your face.
It's probably a safety feature so you don't go blind from the light on the LCD.

Black LCD monitor on Powershot S410

that is not a malfunction, if the "display" button is pressed, the LCD turns off, (black), but if the mode switch is rotated to movie or panorama, it comes back on but will go black again if switched into the other 2 modes. when in one of the 2 modes that show black, simply press "display" and the LCD will come back on.

FYI "GURU", the CCD malfunction manifests as a purple colored screen with various levels of distortion, not black

How to view in the LCD monitor when taking picture.

Unfortunately with this camera it does not have a live view LCD screen. You will need to shoot all images with the viewfinder and then use the LCD to review them.

Lcd monitor cracked

Hi

You can probably find an LCD or a defective camera with a good LCD online for fairly cheap. Don't bother trying to buy the LCD new from a local repair shop or store, if anybody has it they will want far too much money for it.

I can list it in our store, though its a special order item and we don't have any in stock at this time. We are an AFFORDABLE digital camera repair business, (Google: Darntoothysam) I can list your LCD for about $45.

If we can help please let me know. Good luck from Darntoothysam com

I can't seem to turn the monitor (LCD screen) on to view pictures prior to taking them????

The shutter remains closed on a DSLR until you take a picture. There is no way to preview an image that does not exist yet.

LCD Screen does not work properly

Your camera works just like a film camera SLR,. You use the eyepiece to frame and focus your picture. The LCD screen is for reviewing pictures taken or menu operations. You cannot preview a shot on screen before it is taken with the camera.
