My recommendation would be the following:
1) Pull the cartridge back out and make sure there are no scraps of plastic or other material on the bottom of the cartridge that might be interfering with the connection.
2) Check the ink well (where the cartridge goes) with a flashlight for the same thing. A 'faulty cartridge' error can sometimes be caused if the ink cartridge is not making a full connection with the printer.
3) Reinstall the cartridge gently but firmly until it's correctly placed based on your user's manual.
If you're still getting the error message, it's possible that the gold contacts were damaged or the cartridge is defective. Your best bet would be to take the cartridge to the place you got it and try to get a replacement.
There's a possibility that it might be a print head problem as well, but I would check everything about the cartridge first. If you try a second grey cartridge and you're still getting the error, you may want to consider replacing the print head. I found a list of supplies for your printer
