Projection TV flickering blue screen, cannot access devices

The projection TV is a Mitsubishi WD-52525. Last night I disconnected the power on the TV and then reconnected. When TV was turned on the picture was unstable with jagged flickering lines (best description I can think of). I turned the TV off and after it had finished powering down, turned it on again and the picture was normal. At the end of the evening I turned it off with the remote. This morning when I turned it on I got a blue screen suggesting it wasn't getting a signal from the cable box. I switched devices to my DVD player and to Apple TV and got the same result. All connections are correct and tight and I checked the NetCommand menu and it indicates that all devices are connected as they should be. While doing all this I also cleaned the air filter and re-installed it correctly after drying. I then reconnected power and turned the set on and got a solid red light on the front panel indicating a bad lamp. Tried again later in the day with the same result. I then pushed the reset button and after the reset turned the TV on with the remote. This time the red light did not come on and I got a flickering area of white lines in the center (from top to bottom) of the blue screen. Same result when I switch to any of the devices that are connected to the TV. Any ideas on where to go from here would be appreciated.

Thank you for replying. There is no video (picture) signal on the screen. It's just blue except for the center half (top to bottom) where there are flashing or flickering blue lines (I hope that's a good description). When I access the TV menu it is solid with the flashing or flickering lines over it. The menu itself does not flash or flicker. It just appears washed out due to the overlying flashing or flickering white lines.

Yes. I finally called a repair service. They diagnosed the problem over the phone and said they would fix it for (I think) $173.00. If I remember correctly they had to replace a number of capacitors. At any rate, they also said if they couldn't fix it there would be no charge. So, I had them come out and had a working TV by evening. Sorry I can't be more definite, but this was nearly 6 months ago.

Are the lines flickering in the video only, or do they show up in the menu as well. Please let me know if the Menu is solid on the screen. Thanks asnowman

The green CRT's (color picutre tube or color wheel, or ballast) will need to be tested for replacement.

Mitsubishi WD-52525

Normal 0 The Mitsubishi WD-52525 has a serious capacitor problem as discussed in this forum overseen by a Mitsubishi certified repair technician: http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/mitsubishi/11703-problem-mitsubishi-wd-52525-scrambled-picture-no-picture-2.html. There has been a worldwide problem in computers and TVs over thepast several years with faulty electrolytic capacitors (from Taiwan) thatdecay, dry out, swell and die. The power supply is often the firstcomponent to go bad, but other systems also degrade over time. As theforum explains , this problem is widespread in these sets causing multipletypes of display problems after several years of use. On my set, I also got a blue screen with a lighter blue ball in the middle. Mitsubishi is awareof the problem and will cover most of the cost of repairing the chassis, evenyears out of warranty, but apparently ONLY if you get an estimate from aMitsubishi certified repair station and contact their customer support BEFOREdoing any work on the set. I just followed the recommended procedure onthat forum and Mitsubishi is covering half the cost of my $700+ repair when my3+ year-old set recently died and showed only this blue screen on all inputs.
