I got the E74 message - Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

You are experiencing a hardware failure, better know as the red ring of death. Microsoft recomends the following

Step 1: Confirm the E74 error loadTOCNode(2, 'moreinformation'); To verify that your console is displaying the E74 error message, follow these steps:

1. Turn off the console.
2. Turn on the console.
3. Verify that your console displays the E74 error message.

Step 2: Submit a console repair request loadTOCNode(2, 'moreinformation'); If you are experiencing this problem, your Xbox 360 console must be repaired at our service center.

The E74 error happens as the scaler chip that deals with all the display, you will need to stop the heat build up, you can do this yourself or you can send it in for repair.

This is the replacement code that came with the update replacing the RROD or Red Ring of Death. You have to send it in under the 3 year extended warranty Microsoft implemented due to all the RRODs they were producing.

you are seeing one red light on the powerbutton and E74 on the screen?

E74 can only be caused by either the HDD or the console itself,so you might wanna try using a different HDD with your console, if the issue still persists, then most probably, the console is having a hardware failure,there is a possibility that the HDD PORT is not properly woking w/c is causing the e74 error.

if thats the case, try calling xbox support hotline(1-800-4-MYXBOX) to process a repair for the console,it will be free,because Microsoft is extending the warranty of the consoles for 3yrs from the date of purchase for e74 and 3red light issues.

I'm pretty sure E74 is an error message pertaining to your A/V cables. You can try using a different set of cables or just go straight to Microsoft with 1-800-4MY-XBOX I hope you're still covered under warranty if it's the console and not the cables.

send it in....:( ik ur probably like "**** no im not watin tht long" but thts the only thing to do...(I GET MINE TODAY!)

An E74 error usually means there is a problem with the AV cable but in rare cases could also mean there is a problem with the GPU. If you can, try and use another AV cable, pick one up second hand and see how it goes.
