When watching DVD's, the music track in the movie is heard, but the dialogue and soundeffects are not heard or they are extremely low. This happens radomly and to different DVD's. When I turn the volume up, the sound will sometimes pop in. What is going on, and how can i get it fixed?

Check to make sure your power amp is not on a bridged mode in the back. If it is, then only 1 speaker should be connected.

It sounds like your CENTER channel is not connected properly.

Check the connection to the speaker itself, and at the connection to the back of the Sony.

Only background sound, no dialogue when playing blu ray

do you have a center channel speaker hooked up? Most dialogue in movies should come from the center channel.

Check your center channel. Most dialogue is routed to the center channel in surround.

When I use the headphones listening to TV, I get the background sound (eg music) clearly but the dialogue is very low and drowned out by the background music or ambient sounds

It's because the TV's audio is stereo and the dialogue is mono split between two channels. When dialogue hits your headphones the majority of the mono signal gets cancelled. Try a different set of headphones or watch true stereo channels... IE movie channels

Music on DVDs is louder than the dialogue.

In the Audio set up menu, see if there is a setting to turn off surround sound. I believe it's in your owners manual also. LMK

Emerson dvd player - background sound lauder than dialogue

Greetings surfjax,

If you will allow me to make an assumption, you do not have a 5.1 surround system connected to your DVD player. This is a common experience with users of a standard TV or stereo receiver if a movie is being presented in 5.1.

In a surround sound system the center channel speaker provides almost all the vocal tracks while the side channels will provide music and some background noises. You'll still be able to hear the voices in your side speakers, but it will be muted and over powered by music or sound effects.

Some DVD players allow you to "Downmix" the surround signal to stereo. You might want to look around your sound setup on the DVD player or check your owners manual.

Hope this helps.

Muffled voice track on JVC TH-C5

It's an audio setting you will need to change. some movies are decoded in dolby and some by dts. This means you will have to adjust accordingly depending upon the source of audio in the movie. a double d is dolby's trademark and dts is regesterted trademark for the company "digital theater sound." The icons are on the dvd usually. Anyways, find the set up button on the remote control and use the directional arrow keys on the remote; up, down, left, or right to adjust for best sound. the thc5 will have the most function on the surround settings, movie, music, and all st. try a sequence, than repeat until desired sound is heard... good luck
