What is your OS? If you are using Vista then there could be an incompatible piece of hardware which will cause it to hang up. Try installing a different OS. If this is not the problem, it could be the incorrect drivers have been installed. Go to the manufacturers website to make sure you have the correct ones for your computer.

reformatting the disk / restore computer back to company settings...is only the resolution for this...

To reinstall your operating system, you must have a CD drive in your multimedia pocket.

Note: CF-51 (Mk2) and CF-51 (Mk3) can also boot to an external Panasonic USB CD drive.

When the laptop is first powered on, the Panasonic name appears in white lettering with the phrase 'Press F2 to enter Setup' directly below it. When this phrase appears on the screen, immediately press F2 on your keyboard. Put the Panasonic recovery CD in your drive and use the arrow keys to move to the boot tab. Change the order of boot so the CD drive boots first. To do this, highlight the CD drive and press F6 until CD drive is the No. 1 listing. Press F10 to save your changes, exit and follow the instructions when your CD starts running.

If the hard drive is hanging on the format the drive table may have just gottten corrupted. This can happen with a computer but the operating system can fix this usually. The link below will take you through connecting the hard drive to your computer and using it to format the drive. If the computer hangs on the format and/or you still have trouble with the drive then there is something wrong with the drive and you will have to replace it.

Hanging problem

  1. Dirt and clogged fans vents and Heatsinks - When your CPU overheats it will either slowdown to a crawl then hang before shutting down.
  2. Virus and Spyware infection - These nasties tend to run processes that will either slowdown your PC will hang if you run out of resources.
  3. Heavily fragmented drive - throughout the time that your PC is running every time you access a file it tends to settle in a different location than where it originally was. fragmented files launch slower if you run out of resources while the file is launching PC will freeze.
  4. Too many programs running at once or too many startup items are loading in your taskbar. - Startup programs run continously while PC is on leaving you with little to barely enough resources to work with.
  5. Insufficient Memory,CPU or Hard Drive capacity - these three are the heart and soul of your computer they need breathing rooms so their capacities dont get exhausted by normal PC usage.
  6. Failing hardware components and faulty hard drive. - When your PC runs out of memory room it uses the spare space in your hard drive it's called the Page File. If your hard drive is faulty your PC will have problems accessing the Page File it will then Hang.
These are the most common causes of hanging.

Possible Corrupted Hard Drive

is it a lappy or desktop? if its a desktop, you can make your drive a slave in order to recover those files that you want. same goes if its a lappy. however, it would give you a hard time becasue you have to take out the HD fro the lappy unlike the Desktop cpu.

seems like your froze to a point it cant pass over the startup windows loading. it may be that some window files were tampered by an illegal operation by some of your programs.

reformat will do the trick. recover your files by using another cpu of a friend and after that, reformat that drive.
