Acer 5100.  During a Full Restore this error message interupts the restore: (The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.) I think my power was interrupted during the initial restore and resulted in the locked-up message. Installation is stalled and clicking "OK" restarts the computer to the same message. Month ago I by mistake trashed my CD driver and couldn't use it even if I had a Start-up disk. AHave no istall CD. It is only on a partition. so I cant do a start from disk.

I suggest you to reinstall windows 7 and clean your computer.

You are going to have to use the restore/recovery process to get past this. The virus corrupted a major file and now it wont boot. I hope you made backups.

Try pressing F8 whilst booting to get into safe mode, if this will not work your only option may be to restore to factory settings either from the hard drive partition or from a Windows 7 DVD.

You are caught in a loop. Have no recourse other than to use your restore disks and attempt a repair or new installation.

If you made backup recovery cd's do a fresh install of the operational system to factory setting.

I am assuming you are running a Microsoft OS?

As the computer is restarting - press and hold the F8 key. It should take you to a menu that lists, "Safe Mode", "Safe mode with Networking", etc.

Choose "Last Known Good". This might at least get you back to where you were.

If that doesn't work you can try some of the restore options.

DID YOU GET THE RESTORE CD WITH THE HP SYSTEM IF YES THEN PUT THE CD IN START YOUR COMPUTER CHOOSE BOOT FROM DVD AND THATS IT IT WILL RESTORE IT OR ELSE U TRY PRESS FUNCTION 8 LIKE F8 AND CHOOSE LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION. IF DOSENT HELP U HAVE TO GET THE GENUINE wINDOWS DVD AND INSTALL YOUR WINDOWS AGAIN

Try pressing the F8 key while booting, at the boot option page select the last known good configuration and boot from there. If this does not work, press the F8 key while booting and choose boot in safe mode, then go to start/programs/accessorys/system tools/system restore. choose a date that the computer was acting normal and restore to this date. If this does not work do a reinstall with the system restore disk and drive/application restore disk. BPCS
